Murderer* Youd. Cincinnati, Jsauary 4.—The Commer cial's Ashland special nji: The msn ar rested for the Gibbons murder are Wo. Natl, Ellis Craft and George Ellii, all white. AH ware arretted last nigbt and kept quietly in the hotel in the ouatody of Constable Hefflin. George Ellis con fessed to Hefflin. He says that Orafl and Neal awakened him on the night ol the murder and urged him to go with them to Gibbons' bonse. He went re luctantly. They entered by the window, and Neal and Craft outraged the two girl*. Emma Thomas reoogaised Heal, and said she would tell her mother. Bobert, the boy, waa about to give the alarm when Craft struck him on the heed with an ax, killing him instantly. Crail then told Annie her time bad oome, and amid the piteoue cries of the ohild foi mercy he etruck her on the head and killed ber inatantly. Neal then killed Emma Thomas in the seme way. Craft aad Neal at first denied Ellis' story, but Neal confeeeed this afternoon, and both Ellis and Neal waived examination. Crafl ia single; Ellis and Neal are married. They were all preeent at the fire, and one drove the hearae at the funeral and an other was a pall-bearer. Crewde have been gatberini all day at Cattletsbarg, and threats of lynching are oommon. The GattlU't epecial says: Ellis' strange conduct excited the suspicion ol eitiz»ns, who told Detective Hefflia. HtiHin then eent for Ellie and locked bim in his room at the hotel, where Eilii first said that laet summer he had heard Craft aud Meal boaat that before Christ mas they would cernslly know Misi Thomas and Mits Gibbons. Tbo bodies of the victima were ex humed today and the wounda examined. It waa fonnd that they oorreaponded ex actly with the atatemeut of Ellis. Ellis has made all preparationa for death, and expecte it. Detective Helllo thinke Ellia waa the chief aetor in the tragedy, and that hie confeaaion is due to fear that the others would give the information firet. The Trae lnwardnets of General (•rant's Change of Opinion. Nkw Youk, January 4.—A Ttlegram Washington correspondent aaye: Gen eral Grant'a remarkable change of front in regard to the caaaof Fitz-Jobn I'orter has rather a curioua explanation, which may or may not be wholly correct. It ia asaeited that if Grant throwa bis in fluence in favor of the reatorstlon ol Porter to the retired lilt ot the army, the Democrats in Congrees will make no further objection to tbe restoration of Grant to tha array ou the retired list. Hitherto John Logan has bsen tbs lead ing opponent of Porter, ne is tbe principal advocate of tbe bill to put Grant on the retired list. It will be dif ficult, if not imposiible, for him to con tinue bie oppoeition to Porter, in view of Grant's cbaogo of front. The re cently published opinion of John C. lto per, of Iloston, in bis work on Genersl Pope's cumpslgn in favor of Porter, has a good deal of influence. There is little doubt that Generals Grant and Porter will now be placed ou the army retired list. Indian Bureau Denial.
