acoompauied Dr. Blackwood to the
disjecting room, and saw bim use a
knife on tbe remains, cutting away
tbe flesh and performing other work in
that direction. The man who so
testified waa one of the unwilling wit
aesses. but tka circumstanoes were aueb
that he waa forced to diagorge a portion
af hie kaowledga regarding the affair.
Dr. Blaokwood teatiQad that be knew
nothing about tba remains, and then
jumped the town and baa not yet been
overtaken. The resnrreoting of tka body
and tbe subsequent disposition of the

There are a number of suspioieus
characters around and it behooves eiti
zens to be on their guard. An attempt
was made last evening to rob the safe of
Lyona Jt Monahan of Virginia. Tbeir
safe, beaidee having the usual combina
tion lock, has an iron bar acroaa ths
front that is fastened with a padlock.
The burglar entered Lyons t Monaban's
office through a beck door and broke the
padlock, but waa unable to get into the
aafe aa it waa loekad with the combina
tion. Mr. Lyona eaya it baa been cue
tomary during tbe day to aimply lock the
aafe with tbe padloek, only uaiug tbe
combination at night. He believee the
thief was familiar with the office, bad
observed the custom of looking with tbe
padlock and concluded tbat the combina
tion did not work, therefore thought be
bed an eaey job of getting tbe valuablee
out of the aafe.
