Anothmb Way.—Wo have hail two item* about the coming race, anil it seems both were incorrect. The truth is, we are not particularly poHted as regards horse flesh, and accepted ns correct the statements of persons who appeared to be familiar with the terms of the approaching race. Parties interested in the matter at Bher mantown, hare addressed us a note stat iug wherein we erred. Accordingly we hasten to correct. The match is made between Miller's ‘ Wild Hill ’ and the •Glencoe Colt,’ better known as the 1 Ellison Horse;' so says the note to which reference is made. • Wild Bill * is backed by parties residing in Kherman town, and the Travis Bros, go their money on Olencoe. V forfeit of $200 a-side has been deposited in The News office, and the match is made for $1,000 $500 u-side. The race is to come off three w«*eks from next Saturday. Briefly, the foregoing is, we believe, about‘the way turf matters uow stand in White Pine. We will cheerfully make additional corrections, however, if any ore needed. Out on Rail.—We promised Consta ble Martin yesterday that we would say something in his l>ehalf relative to the late robbery in which he has been impli cated. His version of the affair is to the effect that he was called in to suppress the disorderly conduct of the men who afterwards caused his arrest. He further says that he knew nothing of tho miss ing money (l>140) until the day follow ing the occurrence. It was then, for tho fust time, that he heard that the men whom he officially squelched had alleged that they were robbed. He further says, that he will be able to establish his inno cence beyond pcradveutiire, when tho matter comes on for trial. His bail was fixed at 5*1,000, which he promptly fur- ( uished. We are ve ry lunch averse to doing any one an injury, and hence we have presented Constable Martin's side of the case hoping that, if guiltless, he will have no trouble in establishing it by competent testimony. Woman’s Riiihtk. At the election hold in Treasure City, on Wednesday last, some three or four ladies voted for Miu- j ing Recorder, just, as they expressed it, i •for the novelty ot the thing.' There j was but one candidate in the field, and the Judges of the election therefore 1 thought that no harm could result from receiving the votes of the fair creatures. After all, we very much doubt whether there is anythiug in our mining laws prohibiting female suffrage, if the right should l>o insisted on. Rattle Mountain and other localities bearing sanguinary and suggestive names, may now hido their diminished heads: for to White Pino is duo the credit of first according equal political rights without regard ' to sex, color, or previous condition.’ FifiK Run k.—We w ere yesterday shown A sample of tiro brick manufactured by Mr. Andorson, eight miles north of town, on the Egan road. The brick are made from a combination of clays found in the locality named, and from all ap pearances possess the requisite heat-re sisting properties. The Wieland fur nace is now lined with the new material, and thus fur it has been found to work admirably. It is la lived by some of our smelters (bat in tho new article a cheap and durable lining for furUaees has at last been discovered. Samples of the brick can Ik* seen at Judge Raton's store, i South Main street. Annual Election,—The annual elec tion for District Mining Recorder was held iu Treasure City on Wednesday last. L. P. Tenney.the former Recorder, had no opposition, aud consequently hut little interest was manitested in the re sult. Accordingly, but few votes were polled. Mr. Tenney is an obliging gen tleman; is mi efficient officer; and wo are glad of his re-election. We bclievo no effort was made at the molding to amend the District laws. Our miners, we presume, are still waiting for John son’s decision in the case of the Happy Jack vs. the John Dare. Cheap Clothing. -Two sharpers, passing by the name of Jamison A Rat tiean, have lately Wn selling cheap clothing in this city. They profossed to lw representing a large Eastern manu facturing establishment, and sold suits cheap enough to make a man's head swim. They left yesterday, l»y Wood ruff A Kimor's Eureka coach, and when matters wore summed up it was found that they had bilked alxmt half of the town in unpaid bills. A. T. Byrne, the well-known ovstennaii, followed them for n bill of fclfo. Accident prom Falling.—A little daughter of Mr. Duran, residing iu Steptoe Valley, fell from a wagon a few -lays ago, sustaining some painful bruises. Fortunately no bones were broken, and the child will speedily rc» cover. Dull.—We feel like apologizing to our readers for the scarcity of local matter iu this issue. To Ik* candid, but little transpired, besides, we are mentally and physically sick generally demoralized. We hope to be in better trim for our next issue. 1 R Aim no ‘ Poultry.— We hear that a lot of poultry was stolen from a ranch down the canyon a few nights since. The victim of the petty theft 1ms faint suspicion that Celestial apjietites were appeased at his expense. Twk Only Fresh Shill Oysters in Hamilton, are to be found at Byrne’s old stand, in Ferry’* Saloon, Main st. Also, Pigs Feet, Sheeps Tongues, and everything rise that ’a good to cat.
