Ordinance No. 40.
An Ordinance Regulating tbe Salaries of Of
ficers.
The Board of Trustees of Hamilton City do or
dain as follows:
ScrnoM 1. The officers of Hamilton City
shall receive the following compensation for
their services—to wit: The City Marshal shall
receive a salary of nine hundred dollars per an
num, and five per cent, on all taxes collected by
him on real and personal property: and also one
dollar for collecting earn license. The City
Treasurer shall receive a salary of nine hundred
dollars per annum. The City Assessor shall re
ceive a salary of aix hundred dollars per annum.
The Chief Engineer shall receive a salary of nine
nundred dollars per annum. The City Attorney
shall receive a salary of seventy-five dollars per I
month, and. in addition to such percentage as is
allowed him on delinquent taxes, shall receive
five dollars for each conviction for violation of
Ordinances, provided that the same shall in all
cases be, collected from the party convicted, and
in no case to be a charge against the city. The
City Clerk shall receive a salary of seventy-five
dollars per month. Regular Policemen shall re
■•eive a salary of seventy-five dollars per month,
and also two dollars for each arrest and convic
tion, provided that the game shall in all cases be
collected from te party convicted, and in no
rase to be a charge against the city.
Bcc. 2. Each of tne above salaries shall 1>©
payable in legal coin of the United States, in
equal monthly installments, on the first day of
each and every month.

Ordinance No. 41.
An Ordinance regulating Licenses and License
Tax in Hamilton City.
The Board of Trustees of Hamilton City do or
dain as follows:
Hrctiox 1. Tbe Clerk shall cause to be pre
pared, at the expense of the city, printed
forms of City Licenses, to be issued as herein
provided. He shall number and sign the same
and deliver them to the Marshal, from time to
time, charging him therefor. The Marshal
shall make a written report to the Board of Trus
tee# on Monday of each week, dnly verified,
showing the amount of licenses collected by him
the previous week, tbe names of persons or firms
to whom licenses have been Issued, the amount
paid by each, and the occupation or business for
which such licenses were Issued.
Bsc. 2. All licenses herein provided tor shall ,
be payable in legal coin of the United States.
Bxo. 8. Every person or firm engaged in the
business of trading or merchandising, or dealing
in any kind of goods, wares, or merchandise
whatsoever, shall pay a license as follows: Those
making monthly sales to the amount of one
thousand dollars or under, eight dollars per
quarter; those making monthly sales amounting
to more than one thousand and under five thou
sand dollars, twelve dollars per quarter; and
those making monthly sales amounting to more
than five thousand dollars, twenty dollars per
quarter.
8ec. 4. Every person or firm engaged in the
business of storage and commission merchants
shall pay a lioense aa follows: Those whose
monthly receipts amount to one thousand dol
lars or under, ten dollars per quarter; those
whose monthly receipts are more than one thou
sand and nnder three thousand dollars, fifteen
dollars per quarter; and those whose monthly
receipts are more than three thousand dollars,
twenty-five dollars per quarter.
Bsc. 5. Every person or firm engaged in tho
business of banking, dealers in exchange, gold
and silver, stocks, or bullion, shall j»ay a license
of fifty dollars per quarter.
Sue. 6. Every person, firm or company en
gaged in tbe business of expressing or transmit
ting letters or packages for hire, having an office
in this city, shall pay a license of fifty dollars
per quarter.
Sac. 7. Each Telegraph Company doing busi
ness in the city Miall pay a license of fifty dol
lars per quarter.
Sac. 8. Every person, firm or company en
gaged in the business of stock or real estate
brokerage in buying and selling stocks or real
estate, shall pay a license of fifteen dollars per
qnsrter.
Bsc. 9. Every person or Ann engaged in the
business of keeping a livery stable, or lotting
horses, wagons, carriages, or other animals or
vehicles for hire, shall pay a license of fifteen
dollars per quarter.
Bxc. 10. Every person or firm engaged in the
business of running for hire any dray. Job wagon,
cart or other public vehicle, shall pay for each
dray, Job wagon, cart or vehicle so run, a license
of ten dollars per quarter.
8«c. 11. Every person or firm engaged iu the
business of auctioneering shall pay a license of
thirty dollars per quarter.
Sac. 12. Every person or firm engaged In the

business of keeping a barber shop, shall j»ay

business of assaying any metals or ore, shall

license of fifteen dollars per quarter.

business of keeping or conducting any tavern,
hotel, lodging house, chop house, or restaurant,
shall pay a license of fifteen dollars per quarter.

business of keeping a bar or saloon, for retail
ing any wines or liquors of any kind, in less
Jiuantities than one quart, shall pay a license of

ing in the city any exhibition of s caravan, me
nagerie, or collection of animals, or any circus,
show, rope, or wire dancing, or slight of hand
performance, for pay, shall pay a license of
twenty-five dollsrs for each exhibition so given.
Sac. 33. Every person or firm who shall open
or keep a dance-house, commonly known as a
hurdy-gurdy house, shall pay a license of one
hundred dollars per month; provided that in
cans such license 1* grant'd fora less period than
one month, five dollar* per day for each day the
same shall be kept open.
Sme. 83. Every person who shall carry on or
conduct any of the bueinesse*, trades, callings, or
professions mentioned herein, snd shall neglect
to take out a license therefor, as herein provided,
shall be guilty of a mii*lemeanor. and upon con
viction thereof, shall be filed in a sura not less
than the license which <rach person is required
to take out, and not exceeding five hundred dot
lars, which fin* may be enforced by imprison
ment in the city jail not exceeding one day for
• ach two dollar* of such fine.
Bec. 34. All licenses provided for lu this Or
dinance shall be paid in advance, and are hereby
made transferable in eases where the business
licensed is conducted or carried on in the same
building, shop, stall, nr stand, but not otherwise.

Ordinance No. 42.
An Ordinance Creating the Offices of City Re
cordar and City Surveyor.
The Board of Trustees of Hamilton City do or
dain aa follows:
Sbttioji 1. In addition to the office* already
prescribed by law and ordinance, then- ahaH be
and in hereby created the offices of City Recorder
and City Surveyor.
8*<\ 2. The City Recorder, before entering ;
upon the discharge of the duties of his office,
shall give a bond, with two or more sufficient
sureties, to be approved by the Board, in the
sum of five thousand dollar*; and the City Sur
veyor shall give a like bond, in the sum of two
thousand five hundred dollars. Each of the
bonds required by this section shall be in like
form and with like conditions as other bonds re
quired of officers
8*c. 8. The City Recorder shall bold his
Court, every day, at the Recorder’s office, in the
City Hall, and shall be allowed a fee of four dol
lars for each conviction; provided, that the same
Shall in all cases be collected front the party
convicted, and in uo case to be a chaw againi.t
the city.
8kc. 4. Tlie City Recorder shall keep a record
of all Ml jmnMmilW. anil pay over to the City
Treasurer, on Saturday of each week, all money
collected by him. after deducting the fees al
lowed to officers; taking duplicate receipt* there
for—one of which he shall file with the City
Clerk; the other keep for his voucher. The Re
corder shall, also, report to the Board or Mon
day of each week, under oath; which report shall
show all rases brought before him; all fines im
posed, and the amount of fees received by him
anil other officers therein.
8*<\ 5. The City Surveyor shall keep a record
of all surveys made by him, and report the same
to the Board of Trustees on the first Monday of
each month; and shall be permitted to charge
not to exceed ten dollars per lot for fixing the
boundaries for private owners; provided, that
the same shall in no case be a charge against the
city.
8*c. f». All ordinances or parts of ordinances,
in conflict with this Ordinance, and all ordi
nances heretofore, passed providing any com
pensation for either of said officers, are hereby
repealed.

be in force from and after its passage.

Ordinance No. 43.
An Ordinance Relating to Dogs.
Tbe Board of Trustees of Hamilton City do or
dain as follow*:
Section 1. An animal tax, or license, of three
dollars, on all male, and live dollars on all
female dogs, in Hamilton City, over the age of
one month, payable in legal coin of the Uuited
States, is hereby levied and directed to be col
lected.
Six'. 2. The Marshal shall procure a suitable
number of tags, which shall Is* numbered, and
stamped with tbe word Hamilton; and any per
son keeping any dog within the city limits shall
prr>cure of the Marshal a tag, to be attached to
such dog, and shall pay therefor the tax or
license prescribed in Section 1 of this Ordinance.
Sec. 3. The Marshal shall apprehend and im
pound all dogs found running at large without a
tag within the city limits after the 1st day of
August, A. D. 1870.
Sec. 3. Any person wishing to redeem a dog
which has been impounded may do so upon
payment of the tax or liceose required by flec
tion 1 of this Ordinance for a tan and paying to
tbe Marshal the additional sum of two dollars
for impounding the same.
Sec. 5. All dogs impounded shall, unless
sooner redeemed by the owner or claimant, be
killed after the expiration of twenty-four hours,
and interred or otherwise disposed of without
thn city limits.
Sec. 6. The Marshal shall make a report to
the Board of Trustees on Monday of each week
for the week previous, which report shall show
the number of tags sold; tho names of persons
to whom sold, respectively; the date when each
commences and expires; the number of dogs im
pounded; the number killed; the amount of mo
ney received for tags, or otherwise, under this
Ordinance, from the party paying the same, and
shall keep a register In his oflioe showing the
above facts. He shall pay to the Trea*urer, on
Saturday of each week, all money in his hands
from the sal* of tags, after deducting his fees, as
hereinafter allowed.
Sec. 7. The Marshal, in addition to the extra
fees received from those redeeming impounded
dogs, shall receive a fee of Afty cents for each
tag sold and one dollar and Afty cents for each
og killed.
Sec. B. Any person or persons who shall forge
or counterfeit any tag or tags for the purpose of
defrauding the city, shall be guilty of a misde
meanor, and upon conviction thereof shall be
Aned in any sum not less than ten nor more than
Afty dollars, and may be imprisoned in the City
Jail not to exceed one day for each two dollars
of such Ane.
Sec. 9. Any person or persons who shall tie
or otherwise attach any kettle, can, drum, box,
or other substance, to the tail, leg, neck or body
of any dog, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor,
and upon conviction tboruof shall be Aned in
any sum not less than Afty dollars, and may be
imprisoned in the City Jail not to exceed one
day for each two dollars uf such Ane.
Bsc. 18. AU money received into the Treasury
under the provisions of this Ordinance shall l>e
kept in a separate fund, and under the control of
the Board of Trustees.
Sec. 11. This Ordinance shall take effect and
be in force from and after Its passage.

An Ordinance to Provide Water for Hamilton
City.
The Board of Trustees of Hamilton City do or
dain as follows:
8k<'tion 1. A special ad valorem tax of twen
ty-five cents on each one hundred dollars worth
of taxable property, real and personal, in Hamil
ton City, is hereby levied, and directed to be
collected, for the purpose of providing water fur
said city for the year A. D. 1870.
Sbc. 2. The Assessor, in making ont the as
sessment roll for the year A. D. 1870, shall add
a aeparate columu, allowing the amount of the
tax hereby levied, and the same shall be
collected in accordance with the provisions of
Ordinance No. 37, and the same fees allow*d to
officers as in other cases of collection of city
taxes.
Bxc. 8. All mouey received into the Treasury
under the provisions of this Ordinance shall be
set apart to and known as the Water Fund, and
be under the control of the Beard of Trustees.
Bxc. 4. This Ordinance shall take effect and
be in force from the date of its passage.

business of mining In Eureka Mining District,
State of Nevada, is the owner of, and lawfully
entitled to, the possession of that certain tract
of land situated in said District, county of Lan
der, State aforesaid, adjoining the torn of Eu
reka, or Napias, on the south, and known and
called the • McCOY SURVEY.' The said prop
erty was purchased by said corporation in Octo
ber, 1885. and valuable improvements placed
thereon, and continuously occupied and enjoyed
by said corporation until the said McCoy relo
cated the same in July, 1882.
All persona are warned against purchasing the
said tract of land, or any portion thereof, from
Major W. W. McCoy, the present occupant and
clalmaut thereof, as it is the intention of said
corporation to commence an action to recover
the possession theraof.

LICAN State Central Committee, held at
Virginia City, June *1,1870, it wan
Resolved, That a State Convention of the Na
tional Union Republican Party lie held at Elko
on WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER TWENTY
FIRST, 1870, to nominate candidate# for tho fol
lowing offices, to wit: Governor, Lieutenant
Governor, Representative In Congress, Justice of
the Supreme Court, Secretary of State, Attorney
General, Treasurer of State, Controller of Htate,
Surveyor-General, Superintendent of Public In
struction, State Mineralogist, and Clerk of the
Supreme Court, and the transaction of such
other business as shall properly come before
said Convention.
On motion. Resolved, That each county b<
entitled to one Delegate at large, om> for each
one hundred (100) votes, and one for each frac
tion over fifty (50) cast for the Republican Presi
dential Electors at the election of 1808.
On motion. Resolved, That we recommend to
the several County Central Committees that the
Primary Election of Delegates to both State and
County Conventions be held on the 15th day of
September, lH7o. and that at said election one
delegation bo elected to the State Convention
and one delegation to the County Convention.
On motion, Resolved, That a voter at the
Union Republican Primaries shall possess the
following qualifications: He shall ba a citizen
of the United States and State of Nevada; he
shall at the time of voting at the Primaries bo a
qualified elector and registered voter of the pre
cinct in which he offers to vote; he shall have
voted tho Union Republican ticket, State and
National, at the general election of November,
A. I). 1888, or would have done so had it been
possible to vote: he shall solemnly pledge him
self to vote for the nominees of the Union Re
publican party at the general election in Novem
ber. A. D. 1870.
Resolved, That we recommend to the several
County Central Committees, that on the day <-r

eral Conventions, the people be requested to ex
press their preference for the candidates for the
