on, late printer in Court St., Boston,
that Mr. Hall, of Salem, told him that hs
tad just seen a friend from Lawrence,
who knew a man, a Captain of one of
our ocean steamers, who brought over a
Scotchman of about forty years old, who
met a man in Ulasgow, tnat read mm an
account of a new invention of a steam
engine to be run by gas at a coat of two
cents a day. The engine was seen by
a friend of the man, who gave the news
to the correspondent s informant. Air.
Anderson wanted us to make a note of
this to printers valuable piece of in'
formation, the machines being especially
designed to run power presses. W e make
the announcement with great pleasure.
No one who has not been in a similar
position, can form the least idea of the
lucid and acdruute manner in which a
considerable amount of information of
this kind reiches us. We are duly thank
ful. Much obliged, Mr. Anderson. Call

lately had her dinner stolen. No clue
oould be found as to the thief, although
it was sought with team. Finally a mild
plan was hit upon. A tempting dough
nut with a Ailing of cayenne pepper was
Disced in her pail, and the result watched,
before noon a boy was seen at the pump,
working it in a lively manner. It seemed
its if had he had two hundred pairs of
arms he could have used them. The fire
was put out, however, and enough of the
structure saved to take across the knee
for a few minutes.
