The shooting waa done with a Whis tie s patent English pistol. Every cham ber of Courtney's pistol was loaded w hen we saw it after the shooting was done. A summary of these ordinances shows that Number 1 fixes the time wheu all ordi uauces shall take effect namely, ten days after their passage. No. 2 prescribes the style of conduct ing suits, iu the unme "of the town, iiyaiust offenders, etc. No. It is iu regard to fines, liceuscs and tuxes. No. 4 relates to the funds of the town and the payment of claims against it. No. 5 is enacted for the purpose of de fiiiiUi;, puuishintf and preventing nui sances. No. I! provides for a deg lieeuse. No. 7 is intended to prevent and pun ish drunkenness aud other disorderly conduct. No. H contains some excellent precau tionary measures preventive of the de struction of property by fire. J. iU .STREET. .NEVADA, The Japnn Gazette snys: " A contem pornry, tbe Japan Herald, states that it is confidently maintained in official circles that the Government intends to open the whole country to foreigners immetlintely after the return of Iwaknra and the chiefs of tbe mission from Europe, not leaving it for settlement until the revision of the treaties. Our own information does not confirm this statement entirely, but there is no doubt that the Government is anx ious to see the country opened, if they see tbe way to do it with safety to the foreigners. It is a matter which must be cautiously done, as tbere are still many provinces in the interior where foreign ers have never been seen, and where all the old prejudices exist in tbe fullest in tensity. The follow iug information concerning tbe condition of tbe Vice President is from the Alta of July 29, and was telegraphed from Wash ington City on the 28th: Private advices received here confirm the report that has been published re garding the condition of the Vice Presi dent. His face is represented as some what distorted, and he has partly lost the power of speech. He is at present under a severe regimen of diet, the disposition of nearly every hoar in the day being provided for by hit physicians.
