HlNUAT, OCTOBER m. ma. local mxixa review. t-ar the ek KdlsT Oct. S. IMS. Bnllion shipments for the week, $47,- 629.10- " Daring tbs past week there lias been made iu Bristol District a diacoTery which promisee to be en important ben efit to Pioche. As we hae stated in previous wine, on the authority of Su perintendent Roe, a body of ore, which is very rich, end ie .opposed to be also offgreat extent, bae been found in the Cave mine. Although, in the trictest aense of the word, the Cave cannot be said to be one of ortr local mine, yet the tucceei or failure of its owuers, ae stich, i as cloaely allied to onr intereste a if it were in reality in Ely District. There ie considerable excitement among the miners with regard to the mines, or at least the supposed mines of San Juan, near the sonthwesteru corner of Colorado. The distance from here is, we understand in the vicinity of 400 miles. The snow has fallen over part of the road, and is about to fall upon the remainder of it. This makes the excite ment so much greater. The prospector, though be may deny it if you charge him with the fact, usually reasons thus " Nothing that is of any great value can be had without great pains aud labor such and such a district is a long dis tance from me, and the way is bard therefore, as great pains and labor are required to reach it, if I reach it I must be richly rewarded. ' To prove that it is by such a train of reasoning that pros pectors usually conclude to travel, we have but to refer to past excitements, with regard to both placer and quartz mines. Xever does an Autumn pass over the beads of a mining community without bringing with its snow-flakes an excitement with regard to some distant district. However, out of these excite ments good comes to some. Oar wishes to those who have gone from among us to the new mines are that thev mav find golden fortunes. May those who have gone, and those who are to go, remember their fellow workers ot Fiocbe. MEADOW VALLKT Incline 3 bas been sunk to the depth of 1,000 feet, where the 10th station is now being opened. When the station shall have been completed, drifting will be commenced from it, and the sinking of the shaft will be continued. The west drift from the 8th station is in 1H0 feet; the east, from the 9th, 287 feet; the east from the 8th, 373 feet. Incline & has been completed to a depth of 834 feet. Its bottom, ss well as that of No. 3, is in hard quartzite, which, however, blasts well. From incline 7 the west drift at the 8th level is iu 504 feet; the east from tbeitb. 104 feet; the west from the 3d. 116 feet. There has been little or no ohange either in tne character ot tne ore or in the quantity taken out. FIOCHt. At the old works thf re are now ou tbe dump 40 tons of ore, assorted and ready for the mill. During the week the breasts in the stopes have been very hard. For this reason not as much ore has been taken out as usual. The car sumolenof the ore now on the dump give the exceedingly good average of $174.50 to the ton. The new shaft measured 370 feet in depth pesterdar morning. Dur ing the past week the contractors made more progress than during any previous period of the same length. They suc ceeded in going down ro leet. The bot tom of the shaft is still in a shale forma tion. SI-BING HOITCTAIX TCKNIL. Three suilts of men continue the work of sinking tbe shaft, the bottom of which is now 140 feet below the tunnel. It is eipected that ledge No. 2 will be cnt within 10 or 15 feet from where the men are now working. Ledge No. 3 will then lie reached by a cross-cut. The indica tions with regard to the ledges about to be cut are considered very good. WASHIHOTON k CBKOLE. Another winze has been commenced, mukiug three now in progress. These winzes are 1,200 feet apart, and are all in ore. When they shall have been sunk 10C feet, they will be connected with each other by drifts from their bottoms. Sloping upward to tbe level above will then be commenced. The prospects of the mine are better than heretofore. CABOLItil. The sinking of the shaft continues through hard rock. All the rock through which the men have passed during the week has been hard. To-day will be fin ished a contract which will make tbe depth of the shaft 425 feet. Another contract for 100 feet has been let, so that the work will continue uninterruptedly. CHIXr or THE BILL. A progress of 10 feet has been made in the cross cut at the 360-foot level. The rock in the face of tbe drift has been very hard for the last week, but is becoming softer. A further distanoe of 12 feet has been run, siuoe our last report, in the west drift. CHIEF CAST EXTENSION. On Wednesday the sinking of the main shaft was resumed at a depth of 225 feet. The ledge at the bottom of the shaft is regular and well defined. It is, in width, about 3 feet, 6 inches of whioh, along the foot wall, is rich ore. ALPS. . Work has been suspended for a few days, for the purpose of repairing the engine which is out of order. The ap pearance of the mine, when the work men quit, was very promising. The face of the drift was in quartz, showing COXDOll. On Monday last work was resumed in juo wonaor mine at tbe depth of 160 feet. The shaft ia being sunk on the ledge, which is three feet wide. Appearances indicate tbe proximity of a oood bodv of .ore at present. RAYMOND ELI. The number of men at work in this wine has been increased to 225, who take ont 100 tons of ore daily. No change has taken place in the aspect of the mine, nor in the character of the work since the last report. SILVEB PEAK. Tbe incline is now 345 feet deep. In the west drift, at the 280-foot level, a con siderable quantity of very fine ore has oeen found. In tbe upper levels a Urge quantity of low-grade ore is in sight. PEA VINE. The fsoe of the southwest drift at the JO-foot level, which is in 145 feet from the abaft, shows a ledge a foot in width, the ore in the ledge is very good, and the ledge is very well defined.
