in the more quiet South. But the tier
man and Frenoh minds, of all others,
appear to be particularly prone to sui
cide. These nationalities stand nearly
as three to one as compared with the
Irish, and lour to one compared with the
native American.

of Maryland, near Washington, D, O., in
the year 1776, reared by worthy parents,
and received a solid mercantile education;
removed to Pittaburg in 1810 and entered
into the mercantile business. In 1812 be
visited St. Genevieve, St. Loois and St.
Charles, Missouri, with a view of locat
ing, but waa undetermined as to the most
advantageous place; returned to Pitts
burg in 1815, married the aimable and
accomplished Mrs. Ellen Wreusball of
this city, and the next year removed to
St. Louis. His children are Mrs. Presi
dent Grant, Mrs, Dr. Sharp, Mrs. Collec
tor Casey, Captain John C, G. W., Gen.
F. T., and Jude Lewis Dent of Wash
inetou, D. C, all worthy and good peo
ple, devoted to each other, and their past
lives are above reproach. St. Louis

Charles Mortimer as to cause all who
