THE LYON COUNTY TIMES A Mrcnosconc C'tRCt’s.—Tiio lat est excitement in Berlin is the exhi bition of drilled fleas. The exhibi tion takes place on a large sheet of white paper fastened upon an ordi nary table, to which all the specta tors approach in turn, so as to be able to witness in all details the ex traordinary maneuvers of these little but marvelously powerful and gifted rascals. Hero you seo one of the muscular tleas rolling a small barrel j along with its feet, as tho men do in j a circus; there you see a slim, vo luptuously built madam of the i species walking along in crinoline j and carrying her parasol with all the affectation of a city miss; at another place a well-trained fellow performs on the flying trapeze—without any danger to' his neck, however, since the biggest fall would not break that; | while below' the trapeze, on the j paper, a host ol little ones are turn ing somersaults at a fearful rate. The largest specimens of the collec tion have boon trained to draw drays, wagons, carriages, etc. To fix the j harness properly on them tho flea tamer places his pupils on a piece ol paper covered with mucilage, where they have to stick, ffe then, by the ^ aid ot a watchmakers’ loop, arranges a strong gold thread around their bodies and attaches it to the wagon or carriage. Tho ladies of Berlin attend the exhibition in large num bers, and seem to take an extraordi nary delight in the performance of the little creatures, who are fed regu larly, every morning, from the arm of the great flea-tamer.—Heal th amt Home. j P. Hearses and Carriages Furnished for Funerals. Republican Slate Platform. The Union Republican party of Nevada in Convention assembled, renewing it* ni*4i„ «*f devotion to the Constitution and w,t the Federal Government, hereby annonnr«.I its platform to the people as follows • t8 Resolved—First, That we reaffirm the nrin eiples and policy of the Republican party enunciated by its last National Convention that we are proud of its history and great r V vice*, and we especially commend the vk.yy and force by which it maintained the rnion abolished slavery, and secured equal civil ans political right to all citizens. We demand that these rights be enforced by appropriate legislation, so that all citizens shall have the equal enjoyment of their rights. We detnai .1 of onr public agents fidelity to their prin. i pies ; the honest execution of the pledge* made to the public; purity, integrity ami economy in the discharge of their official du ties, and the prompt and fearless examination and punishment of those who violate anv ,,f their obligations. 9 Second—That we heartily indorse the last Republican Congress in repealing the law in. creasing official salaries ; in reducing expense* by more than $20,000,000 : in successfully re. sisting all jobs ; in abolishing the extravagant Government of the District of Columbia, and in reforming abuses generally, whereby the Republican party has proved itself to be worthy of continued support by the people. Fourth—That we earnestly desire that the credit of the country be firmly maintained, in order that its commercial and industrial’In. terests may not suffer injury by the fluctuation of values. « r by impairing the degree of con fidence which now prevails with regard to th* circulating medium, which we hope soon to see based on a metallic currency. Fifth—That we disapprove of the election of a President for a third term, as establishing a precedent dangerous to the perpetuity of Re publican institutions. Sixth—That honest, practical labor should be protected and receive a just reward, in support of which view we favor the revision of our treaty relations with the Empire of China in such a manner as to discourage the immigration of a servile class of laborers and such legislation as will actually prohibit the importation of depraved perflons from abroad. Seventh—That, except in such cases as wl» n the grant or subsiily is first submitted to Un people interested, and approved by them, we art* opposed to the granting by County, Stat or Federal Government of sutnddies or grants to railways or other corporations. Eighth*—That while we appreciate the ad vantages derived from railroads, we demand at the hands of our National Congress ami our State Legislature the passage of laws estsle lisliing fares and freights at a reasonable rate, ami prohibiting such railways from discrimi nating in their charges between the residents of this State and those of other States; also, we favor the passage of laws compelling rail roads to pay a fair and equal amount of taxa tion upon all property owned or controlled by them in this State. Ninth—We believe that the office ami duty of a statesman to be to do business f-r the State, and in the transactions «»f the business of the State it is our duty to call into official place the most intelligent, industrious, enter prising and discreet business men of the State, hereby pledging such men ami all new candi dates before us and the nominees of this Con vention. if elected, to do business for the State as industriously, economically and discreetly as in their invividual capacity as private citi zens do business themselves : that the com pensation of public employes should not ex ceed the price, sum or amount that similar services command in private pursuits of the State. Tenth—That the education of the children of the State is a matter of deep public con cern. The public schools and the Behind fund of the State demand the fostering care of all good citizens. The school fund of the State should be invested in bonds of the Stato, un assignable both in term and fact.
