From Surpriso Valley, California
comes the following story of an old
fellow who got very jealous because
his wife went to a ball with a good
looking fellow, and stayed ont until
broad daylight. The old chap went.
to the Justice of the Peace and told
bis story winding up with, “ I want
you to help me, for that ar’ thing
"has been going on long enough.”
“ Well,” said the justice, “ you can
write down to Yreka, and see if some
one of tho lawyers can't get you a
divorce.” “ Divorce!” roared the
angry man, “ who wants a divorce?”
The justice began to get wrathv. “If I
you don’t want a divorce what
brought you here?” “ Why, I want
an injunction to stop further pro
ceedings.”
AFTER tho Prosecuting Attorney
had heaped vituperation on the poor
prisoner without counsel, the Judgo
asked him if he had anything to say
for himself. ‘‘Your Honor,” re
plied the prisoner, “ I ask for a
postponement for eighteen days, in
order that I may find a blackguard
to answer that one there.”
