SILVER CITY, NEVADA, NOV 1, 1874 NO *52 I Willi Blanks, Receipt., -- -’_’ l Legal Blanks, Ae. Traveling Correspondence. Genoa, Oct. 31, 1874. Mb. Ehitob :—My travels brought me to this place yesterday. I find the town somewhat improved since mv last visit. The new fliuno, new buildings and other improvements show that the people are not a sleeping. Last evening Dr. Haz lett, tho Republican candidate for Governor, and Wm. Woodburn, Re publican candidate for Congress, visited the town and addressed tho people upon the political principles of the party they represent. Tho Doctor explained his connection with tho revenue laws of the .State, through the action of which tho State debt has been largely reduced. Had tho bill introduced by him two years ago become a law, taxation would have been reduced from 81 25 to 60 cents on the 8100. The impres sions left upon the minds of the au dience by the Doctor’s speech were, that he was just the man wanted to fill the gubernatorial chair. Win. Woodburn was called upon and made a rousing, sensible speech, defending the Republican party and its principles from tho aspersions of the Secesli Democracy. He proved that the Republican patty had always sustained and defended the poor man from the oppressions of the rich, by the passage of tho homestead law, eight-hour law, and protection to our naturalized citizens from the persecutions of the govern ments they were born under. His arguments were presented in a plain, sensible manner, divested : oi all abuse and misrepresentation. I have no doubt Mr. Woodburn many a vote by this speech. If lie lias been as successful in the Eastern . portion of tho State, his election is j certain. The Carson Glee Club and Carson Band were in town and assisted at the meeting. You can set down this county’ to the Republicans, say from seventy to one hundred majority. Tbxpod. FIRST ANNIVERSARY BALL .OF.
