Qemina Luziani, of Pisa, is a little girl seven years old, but so small as to seem about five. Last week she gave a concert, and every one is talking of her marvelous talent for piano playing. Her hand is so small that she can bare ly strike a sixth, but she takes the octaves by a quick movement that is admirably executed. The mu sical critics say she plays with wonderful expression and with a just comprehension of the music that is rare even in adult perform ers. A young lady who sang at the concert told us a call she re ceived from the little prodigy. “ The child walked into our parlor -with the greatest dignity, and com ing directly to me said very rapid ly and in a perfectly monotonous tone. ‘ bignorina, I have to say I thank you very much for singing at rnj’ concert.’ Then she made a little bobbing courtesy and sat down. I complimented her play ing; she got off the chair, said ‘ thank you,’ repeated her courtesy and sat down again. This she did every time I said a word of com mendation and always with the .same grave, old manner.” It is generally thought she is too preco cious to live long, and as I am told she practices six hours a day, I can well believe that she will be a vnartyr to the ambition of herself jand friends.—[Letter from Italy A New Kind of Poisonous Diikss Goods. — Professor Gentl says that ia some English and Alsatian jirint works the expensive albumen is partially replaced by glycerine - arsenic and acetate of alumina. Some of the dress goods in the market contain three or four grains of arsenic in a yard of the stuff. Muslins and cambrics with little white spots, circles, stars, or flowers, on a violet ground, and those printed with brownish yellow or teddish brown patterns, have been found to contain arsenic; and these are colors which have never before been considered with any suspicion, and would be purchased by the uninitiated without any forebodings of the danger that would attend the wearing of such dresses. The danger is no slight one; for aside from the large quan tity of arsenic in it, tho compound is not an insoluble one. If tho goods are soaked in water, there is dissolved out a sufficient amount of salt to give a distinct reaction. This latter peculiarity is explained l>y the supposition that the goods, being comparatively cheap, are not washed or rinsed after printing, but sent directly to bo finished. 11 Isn <lere some lediler here for i me ?” inquired a German at the general delivery window of the J post-office yesterday, says the De troit “Free Press.” “No, none here,” was the reply. “Veil, dot is queer,” he continued, getting his head into the window; “my neibor gets somedimes dree letters in one day, und I get none. I bays more duxes as he does, und I haf never got one ledder yet. How comes dose dings?" If every man had a torpedo planted in his head that would set itself of! whenever he attempted a downright criminal act. what a blessed tiling it would lie for the age! But then with such a thin ning out among our sensational preachers, congressmen, govern ment architects, and the like, how could we get along! An Eastern editor, thinking to stock his depleted larder, adver tised, “ Poultry taken in exchange for advertising.” The villainous compositor, seeing his opportunity to pay up a long-standing grudge, set it up, “ Poetry taken, etc.,” and since that time the office boy has been clearing fifty cents a day from the waste paper bag. The “boss” grasshopper has been heard from. He took the window blinds off a poor widow’s house in Phelps county, Mo., and then roosted on the fence and asked her, “ Come, now, are you ever going to briug out that cast-ott clothing, or do you want us to starve ?” Important notice. — owing to ttie increased business of Dr. A.
