It is reported that a deposit of radium has been discovered in the Goldfield district. The extra telegraph line of the Western Union Company will be completed into Goldfield and To nopah next week. In a bowling contest Sunday the Virginia Bowling Club defeat ed the Capital City Club by a score of 2150 to 1921. Three of the murderers of Jack Walsh are now on trial in Reno. Williams, the fourth man, is to have a separate trial. Peter Decook, a prominent resi dent of Lovelock, committed sui cide last week Friday by drinking cyanide of potassium. G. H. Allen, of Wells, has been bound over to appear before the grand jury of Elko county on a charge of horse stealing. John Cole, a native of Minne apolis, was taken from Tonopah to Carson last week Friday very ill with consumption. He died Sunday. Only 65 miles of track are to be laid when the Salt Lake & Los Angeles line will be completed. The last spike will be driven by December 1st. Reubens, the negro brute who tried to ravish a white girl in Re no some weeks ago, has been con victed and sent to the State prison for fourteen years. It is reported that John M. Ful ton has been appointed Superin tendent of the C. & C. railroad and Frank Cagwin has been ap pointed track engineer. George Thomas, a jockey, had both bones in his right leg broken below the knee at Klko last Satur day, by a horse he was riding in a race running into a fence. The Reno Post of Spanish Vet erans lias been named the General Lloyd B. Wheaton Command, No. 203. This Post will give a ban quet in Reno on the 9th inst. The preliminary examination of Adam Bey was held in Silver City Monday and was bound over to appear before the grand jury, with bonds fixed at $2000, which he furnished. G. Roso, an employe of the S. P. Company, was attacked by a footpad near Derby Sunday night. He refused to hand over his valu ables and had his eye knocked out with a rock. Mrs. A. C. Pratt has begun di vorce proceedings against her hus band. The couple were married in Carson in 1898 and now live in Reno. A. C. Pratt Is a well known mining man of this State. John Bouton, who plead guilty to forgery, was sentenced to 18 months, in State prison, and Wm. Young, who plead guilty to grand larceny, was sentenced to three years, at Klko last Saturday. The first issue of the Goldfield Review, published at Columbia, Nevada, is out. It is a neat and newsy 6-column paper published by T. D. Vandevort, and will un doubtedly meet with success. A six-horse team pulling two heavily loaded freight wagons walked through the streets of Cherry Creek one day last week and stopped at the livery stable as was their custom. Charles Wag ner, the old driver, w'as sitting on the seat as usual, but he did not get down when the team stopped. An investigation showed that he was dead, and that life had been extinct a number of hours. L. B. Rooker, the youngest son of General J. E. Rooker, one of the pioneers of Lander county, was killed by a horse in Stockton, Cal., a few days ago. He was one of the most popular young men in Austin. Senator Dangburg has purchas ed the first ride on the new elec tric line between Reno and Sparks, paying therefor a fancy price. Cars for the new line have arrived in Reno and will soon be in oper ation now. Miss Myrtle Skinner has been voted the most popular girl in Washoe county, and declared the winner of the Atkinson Business College scholarship, a contest for which has been going for the past few months. Wednesday morning a new train went into service on the V. & T., which makes six trains a day to pass over the road. The new train is only to carry freight and railroad supplies from Reno to Mound House Mrs. Sarah J. Blaisdel, widow of the late Henry G. Blaisdel, who was the first Governor of Nevada, passed away at her home in Fruitvale, Cal., last Monday. She was a native of Indiana, and was 64 years of age. St. Clair, Churchill county, is now experiencing quite a boom as a result of the reclamation work going on in that county. The land around St. Clair is very rich and many settlers are taking up homesteads in that vicinity. The fireman on the overland limited fell from his cab while crossing the Lucin cut-off Tuesday morning and had both legs cut off above the knees. He suffered terribly before he died and beg ged the passengers to kill him. An old prospector named “Doc” Wilson arrived in Caliente, Nev., the other day from the upper end of Death Valley, carrying two sacks of ore worth $20,000, from a ledge he discovered. The old man came near perishing from expos ure on the trip. The appointment of H. C. Law rence, former postmaster at Hazen, now awaiting trial in the county jail at Fallon on numerous charg es, has been cancelled. W. E. Higraan, Sr., a business man of the new town, has been appointed to fill the vacancy. E. A. Colburn, Jr., son of the President of the Cripple Creek Mine Owners’ Association, who was examining Goldfield mines with a view1 to purchasing, was run out of that camp a few days ago by a lot of Colorado miners who are located in that camp, and warned never to return.
