In one bay, Hartlepool, it w recked eighty one vessels. While the Storm was at its height, t lie Rising Sun, a stout brig, struck on the Longrear rock, a reef ex tending one mile from one side of the hay. She sunk,'leaving only her two topmasts above the foaming waves. The life-boats were away rescuing wrecked crews. The only means of saving the men clinging to the swinging masts was the rocket apparatus. Be fore it could be adjusted one mast fell. Just as the rocket, bearing the life-line, went booming out of the mortar, the other mast toppled over. Sadly the rocket men began to draw in the other line, when suddenly they felt that something was attached to it, and in a few minutes hauled on the beach the apparently lifeless body of a sailor boy. Trained and tender hands worked, and in a short time he became conscious. With wild amazement he gazed around the crowd of kind and sympathizing friends. They raised him to his feet. He looked up into the weather-beaten face of an old liiherinan near him, and asked: “Where am I ? ” “Thou art here, my lad.” “Where’s the captain?” “Drowned, my lad.” “The mate, then ? ” “He's drowned, too.” “The crew ? ” “They are all lost, my lad; thoa art the only one saved." The boy stood overwhelmed for a few moments, then raised both hands and cried out in a loud voice: “My mother’s been praying forme!" Aud then he dropped on his knees in the wet sand and hid his sobbing face in his hands. Hundreds heard that day this attri bute to a mother’s love, and to God's faithfulness in listening to a dear moth er’s prayer. The little follow was taken to a house near by, and in a few days he w as sent home to his mother’s cottage in North umberland. 0HMBMWOCVR* •. ‘LXVaBnnBBlIBBMMBM n c:\ky iiisch, I) E A L E U I N Hines, Liquors ami Cisarm -ALSO — -f T[ie f'lmlccsl llriinils uf llt'rr.j— OPPOSITE THE COl’BT Hlll/SB. ■ Wlnnemueia, November 15,1S79. 15-tt WINNEMUCCA F L O ir Ii 1 X ti MILLS.
