The issue that is now being pressed to a conclusion in the senate is the one above all others in which the people of Colorado and the other mining states are interested. If the brave sentinels of the silver cause on watch shall not prove equal to the tremendous strain that is put upon them, a yet more serious collapse of Colorado’s business industries will . ensue; if they are strong enough to win, what business and values there are left will continue and will enable the state to live while the great battle ! for free coinage is being finally con tested in the forum of the people. Senator Allen of Nebraska, the stalwart Populist, has shown himself a hero. A hero, not only in physical and mental endurance required to stand upon his feet for sixteen con- I secutive hours, commencing with the ! setting of the sun and enduring through all the weary hours of the night and the morning, until hut two hours of the reaching of the meridan by the next day’s sun, but also in the moral courage required to stand be fore the country the target for the shafts of the great subsidized papers of the Past, fighting the cause of the people. Will the newspapers of the gang nominees continue to slur the party to which the brave Allen belongs?; Which of the gang, which of the pa pers would make greater sacrifices than he to save Colorado the only law remaining by which the silver of our mines can find a governmental market? Senators Teller and Wolcott, in tho splendid fight they are making, are contending against the Republican party as much as against Cleveland { and his Democratic followers. The , wires bring the news that the Repub- j ncan senatorial vote win oe nearly solid in favor of unconditional repeal. The chief foes the Colorado senators contend against, make the overwhelm ing majority of the body of Republi can senators. The Democratic senators—not till of them, but most of them—would be with Cleveland were it not for the Populist party that is kindling so fierce a fire in their rear that they dare not retreat. The Populist senators — Stewart, Allen, Kyle, Peffer, Jones and Irby —six in all, stand as firmly as the • adamantine hills for the restoration of free coinage. Teller, Wolcott and Dubois—say what designing politic ians may—are with them and recog nize in their party the coining giant to tight our cause.— Denver News. Why Hair is Gray. Savs Dr. Flint of certain cases cited I by him, “On careful microscopical ; i examination, the white hairs were ! found to contain a great number of air globules in the medullaandin the I cortical substance, but the pigment : was everywhere preserved.’‘ The microscopical examinations by Dr. Lamlois and others leave no doubt as j to the cause of the wiiite color of the > ' hair in cases of sudden blanching, , and instances show that the fact of1 the occurrence of this phenomenon i can no longer be called in question. All are agreed that there is no dimi i notion in the pigment, but that the greater part of the medulla becomes tilled with air, small globules being j also found in the cortical substance, i —Ilyland C.
