March TT.-—An im mense project to irrigate a strip of lane 500 miles long and 25 miles v ide in he western half of North and South Dakota Is being promoted by the Great Plains irrigation association. with headquarters at Fort Pierre. The sec retary of the company, G. G. Inman. is In the city circulating a petition among the business men for the raising of funds to finance a preliminary sur vey which will be sent with the peti tion to the federal authorities for finan cial aid. The idea is to take water from the Yellowstone river, where it flows into the Missouri in North Da kota. store it in natural reservoirs there and then carry it in an Immense pipe line down through the states of North and South Dakota. The alti tude at the mouth of the Yellowstone Is 2.665 feet, and at the White river, where the pipe line ia to empty. 1,360 feet, which fall it is estimated will fur nish plenty of pressure to syphon the water for wide distribution. The proj ect will bring in 8.000.000 acres of land and will -ost about $80,000.00(1. It is claimed that homes for i'.000,000 will be furnished by the project and that land now worth less than S10 will be raised in value to over |100. MITCHELL SEEKS LOCATION OF TRACTOR MANUFACTORY Mitchell. S. I ., March 17. An effort is being made by the Commercial club of this city to obtain the factory for the manufacture of the new Dakota tractor in his city. The tractor is the Invention of G. W. Biliott. of De Smet, and is being made there at the present time, although all indications point to the fact that it will shortly be made in this city.
