Col. A. (1. Brackett, commanding the dis trict of tbt Yellowstone, with headquarter* at Fort Custer, Montana, lias issoid an or per commendatory of the bravery and en I durance of his troops. The order is follows: The district commander take* pleasure in announcing to the troops nerving in the district, the successful results of the effort* made to capture and destroy the hostile Cheyennes under Little Wolf. These In diani, after committing many depredations and atrocities, entered this district from the south, at a time of the year when campaign ing seemed almost impossible nevertheless the commands sent out in February under Capt. Synder, 5th infantry (consisting of companies A and 5th infantry and com pany A 2d cavalry), and Lieut. Clark, com prising companies E and I, 2d cavalry, and detachment,5th infantry, bore the hardships of field services with becomirg fortitude and determination. Notwithstanding the almost impassable streams, deep snows, short rations, and the rigors of winter, the biding place of the hostiles was discovered by the Indian Bcouts serving witb Lieut. Clark, who, with rare judgment and energy immediately started after them and succeed ed on the 25th inst., in capturing the entire village, consisting of about thirty lodges and two hundred and fifty horses. The savages under Little Wolf, are now in the power of the government, unable ta continue their raids on the settlements of the valleys or to join their more successful allies, the northern Sioux. The district commander thanks Lieuts. Clark and Kings bury and companies Eand I 2d cavalry, and Lieut. Tillson and the detachment of the 5th infantry, for the excellent service done, lie also expresses bis acknowledgments to Capts. Snyder and Casey, 5th infantry, and Lieut. Pearson, 2l cavalry, and their re spective companies, for the zeal and energy displayed by them in operating from a more distant locality, and having in common with Lieut. Clark's command the object of intercepting Little Wolf and his band. Mr. Keiser and the Crow Indian scouts sent from this post are also deserving of mention for their perseverance in traversing the country to the east and south. HOW TO PAY A COMPLIMENT. Boston Transcript. To pay a compliment is to tell the truth, MlXtlirC and to tell it as though you meant it. And the only way to do that is to mean it. If a girl is pretty or accomplished if sbe plays well, or sings well, or dances well, or talks well If, In a word, sbe pleases, why. in the osme of common sense, shouldn't she be tola of It? Don't blurt it out before every body. She will only serve to make her feel uncomfortable and make you appear ridiculous. Say it quietly when opportu nity offers, but so that there may be no mistake about it. But don't say it "offl cially." Formality is about the coldest IbinK known. More than one maiden has beea made happy—say for half an hour by a man taking the trouble to say- a pleas ant thing about a toilet that he liked, aDd many of fashion's follies bave been given up by girls when tbey noticed a discrect silence concerning tbem on the psrt of tbeir gentlemen friends. A bewitching little black-eyed beauty once said to a gen tlernan," 1 like to have you s«y sweet things to me, if It seems to come so easy and na tural." In genera! terms, it may be said tbat it is always better to ssy an agreeable thing than a disagreeable one—better for all parlies. Tbe gallant who, when young lady stepped on bis foot wbile danc ing and asked pardon, said, Don't mention it a dainty little foot like tbat wouldn': hurt a daisy," not only told tbe truth but doubtless felt more comfortable than tbe poor fellow who, when his foot wss step ed on, roared out, "That's right climb all over me with your great, clumsy hoofs." AGRICULTURAL HORSES. At the February meeting of the Teviot dale farmers' club, Mr. Thomas Brown, Edinburgh, in introducing tbe question of the "Most profitable and useful breed of horses for agiiculturc iu this district," said: For many years Clydesdale horses bave been mosily used in this and other coun tries, aud bave been very profitable to breeders, as many of tiiem bare been sold at very high prices. With few exceptions they bave brought more money than aoy other breed in the world. I think it is a great mistake in many formers trying to breed from old wrought out mares, useless for anything else, and often too old for tbat purpose. By using young sound mares you have a better prospect of getting more val uable borses. I, therefore, think that breediog first class Clydesdale borses for sale is tbe most profitable course but for usefulness I consider smooth legged horses, with strength and a little breeding, will stand more fatigue, be as easy kept, and not so liable to lameness from cracked heels, grease, etc., and can be bought at a much lower price than Clydesdale. I had a good deal of experience in driving, and al ways found tbe best bred could always go to tbe longest journey tbe same in bunt ing. Forty years ago it was a rare sight to see a thoroughbred in the bunting field. New you will seldom see a half-breed. Some years ago you had some chance of winning a hunter's stake with a half-bred, but now you require a thoroughbred to win even a small stake —London Live Stock Journal. MONTANA INDIANS. Helena, Montana, April 22 —The bodies of fire Uncapapa Sionx were found on the prairie thirty miles from Benton on tbe 18th. Tbey are supposed to be raiders who were discorereid and killed by tbe Gros Ventres. Tbe Flathead Indians will not stay on their reservation, get drunk, and bave sev eral times attacked white men witb rocks. A man named Kenny, wbo knocked down a threatening Indian, waa shot and would have been killed by a score of infuriated young bucks had not some older chiefs in terfered. Tbe company of infantry at Ft. Missoula seems unable to give tbe protec tion demanded by the settlers, and tbe Charlos band of unruly redskins needs severity to keep it within bounds. On the lOib a party of Indians, probably Mountain Crows, ran off with ten horses from Hunter's Springs, on tbe Yellow stone. They were hotly pursued, but ef fected their escape with three horses. Trouble with the British mounted po lice kas driven the Teton Sioux to this side of the boundary. Harry Kats's stock is varied aad suitable lor all classes working men, merchant* profassiooal men.
