I snutht —- I Artdt .fins victory the FEAST A Pleasant Occasion Last Night After the splendid Inborn of the campaign and the summing up cf the results, the gatherings'of the actors on the winning side for congratula tion and jollification, have a peculiar interest. Last evening an impromtu meeting organized in front of McDaniel’s Theatre by the citizens of Cheyenne, in honor of the people’s favorite, the Hon. W. T. Jones, our newly elected Delegate to Congress, who had just returned from the western part of the Terri tory. . lion. I. \V. C)ok ivas called to the chair;’'? Secretary Olafcke was ap pointed vice-president, and S. M. Preshaw, secretary. Attorney-Gen eral Carey, who has performed a gowl deal of hard labor, addressed a few words of congratulation to the assem bled multitude, whereupon Judge Jones : was introduces! to the audience, nnd was received with deafening cheers. In an eloquent address, he referred the people to the speeches lie had made during the canvass, and declared his readimss to keep all the promises he had made them. He explained at length the wants of the ■Territory, and pledged himself to work unceasingly during his term of office, for the interests of the peohle of Wyoming, be they political friends or foes, closing with (lie sentence: 41 By my deeds you shall judge me.” Hon. S. F. Nuckolls, our present Delegate in Congress, and Colonel L. Murrin, the war horse of the d< mo craey of Wyoming, being called for, made a few remarks, joining with the Republicans in congratulating the people that they had secured the ablest man of tho Territory as their representative in Congress, and that in their opinion Judge Jones would leave nothing undone in advancing the interers of the Territory. Report of the Sarranlor of Mob:- Washington, Sept. 12.—The offi cial dispatch recently sent abroad, relating to the war, Friday, when President Grant was in Washington, was addressed to Bancroft, hut copies were sent to Washburne and Motley to the effect that while we cannot act in connection with other nations, yet, if our good offices shall he requested by both of the beligerents, we should he happy to extend them with the view of bringing about peace between the two great powers with which we have traditional friendship. Our government will scrupulously abstain from interfering in matters of foreign nations, if for no other reason than because It would set an example and afford a pretext for foreign govern ments hereafter to interfere with our own ; hence, it expresses no opinion |as to the merits of the war. London, Sept. 12.— An outbreak is reported in the province of Viterbo.
