Bai> fob the Liquou Tkade.—
There is an institution in town which
is playing havoc with the saloon bus
iness. We refer to the lodge of Good
Templars, lately organized here. One
would'have thought such an institu
tion powerless for good here, but
tlie way the membership is in
creasing shows tho Incorrectness of
such an impression. Let the cause of
temperance prosper in tills pinee, aud
many will be bettered in mind nnd
body.

the change will be cheerfully made.
Weather Kepout.— Our report
of tho weather to-day is a little
“ mixed.” This is owing to the fact
of our weather reporter haviugjolned
the Good Templar’s organization of
thiscity. The sudden change from
“whisky straight” to cold water,
was too much for him. lie reports
the 6ur-ometer rising rapidly in con
sequence of the unusual amount of
wafer in iiis atmosphere. His ther
mometer and pocket-book nre‘“ bust
ed,”ftud lie is unable to determine
the state of the heat without puking
his head into she stove, a thing he is
loth to do, on account of the possible
lose to soiencf, and fur other and pru
dential raisons. Our weather clerk
was unable to “raise the wind”
and out of regard for his impecunious
condition, his bonrding-house clerk
• kindly “kicked up a little breeze”
for ills benefit. The aforesaid clerk
swears lie will make it a “stiff breeze”
shortly if lie don’t litjuidSte. Being
a teetotaler now, our clerk is in the
horn of a dilemma. It is to be lio]ied
the “rainfiill” will be slight until ho
gets out of that horn. As tho “state
* ot ttio weather is dark and “ threat
ening” at this writing, we forbear
further report at this time. We don’t
like threatening tilings, and hope our
raiders will excuse us until we can
get a more “ fair ” show.
Chevexne Gymnasium.—This so
ciety perfected its organization last
evening, and will at once enter upon
the work of refitting Turners’ Hull
for the purpose of athletic and health
ful exercise. The membership com
prises a large share of the young men
of the city who are engaged in Indoor
business, and who, most of all, need
the exercise afforded by such an insti
