NEW YORK.
New York, June 23.—Lewis I).
Tappan, one of the foremost workers j
in the anti-slavery movement in its
earliest efforts in this city, (lied, aged
85, at his residence in Brooklyn, Sat
urday.
A special despatch states that (lie
incendiary fire at Mt. Morris, Liv
ingston county, N. Y., y< sterday,
burned all the brick stores between
the American house and tlie Phelps
house. Loss, SBO,OOO, partially in
sured.
Clark, the jockey, who was injured
at Jer-jine Park on Saturday by tho
horse “Sorrel Dun” falling on him |
while he was exercising him for a
hurdle race, is resorted d ad this
morning.
The proprietors of the faro banks,
learning of the contemplated raid by
the police, have closed tiieir estab
lishments.
Tho federal council of tiie Interna
tional Workingmen’s Association, at
a meeting yesterday, listened to tho
reading of communications from
Spain and Switzerland, enquiring if
in the case of a general strike among
all workers there, the sections in this
city would loan them money to cur
ry out their plans.
Carl Vogt, the alleged murderer of |
Baron Debanco, has boon held for
extradition to Belgium.
The U. S. Circuit Court is engaged
to-day in empnnnelling a Jury for
the trial of Tennie Clufflin and Vic
toria Woodhull. The Judge refused'
to postpone the trial in eonsequenco
of the alleged sickness of one of the
defendants.
The steamer Wyoming arrived
from Liverpool, and the Vandalia !
from Hamburg. The hand of the 1
108th regiment of Saxony arrived
this afternoon on the Vandalia, and
was received by the Fifth regiment |
of the New York National Guard
and handsomely entertained.
PENNSYLVANIA, j
Philadelphia, Juno 23,—Tur
ner’s stables, at the point of Breeze
Trotting Park, wore burned this
morning. Os fourteen valuable trot
ters in the stables, Mallie Lyle and
Nettie only were saved.
The trotting horses burnt in Tur- 1
tier’s slubles, near Breeze Point Park
this forenoon, were Del Daisy, Ver
non Lady, Girard, Safe Brutus. To
tal loss by the tire is $50,000.

Washington, June 23.—A de

Commission, mentions that thecoun
cil held with the Sioux Indians, at
Ft. Laramie, resulted successfully
with regard to the change of tlie
agency and the continuance of peace.

Bichmo.nd, Vil, June 23.—One
car of tlie night express train to Cin
cinnati, of the Chesapeake nnd Ohio
railroad, was thrown front the track
last night soon after leaving Rich
mond. it turned bottom up and
was badly wrecked. Several persons
were injured, though none very se-
1 slously. Among those injured are
j George Artingstall, of England, Mr.
J and Mrs. Waller nnd Miss Waller,
i Chicago. Mrs. Waller had her
I shoulder blade broken.
St. Louis, June 28.—There was a
1 collision last night of two picnic par-
I ties on tlie Atlantic and Pacific ruil
’ road. A number of persons were
hurt badly but none killed.
Portland, June 23.—8. F. Boh
erts’s house with outbuildings, near
Stcaroppa, burned this morning.
Mrs. Roberts looped from tlie second
story window and was killed. Miss
Boady, a niece of Roberts, who also
leaped from the same window, es
caped inltiry by the fall, hut is
thought to be fatally burned. A lit
tle son of Roberts was seriously in-j
jured by falling down stairs. The
tiro is thought to he incendiary.

cent docks of this city, constructed by
