One morning last week the citizens of Scranton, Penn., were startled by the announcement that the “Oxford Mines” had been suddenly submerged with water from the Lackawanna Itiver, and that one hundred miners had been drownod. The mine was being worked under the bed of the river, and the miners had unawares approached too near the river’s bed, and during a blast an orifice live feet square was formed, through which the waters of the river rushed in tor rents.
