B., last week by the death of his father, who was in his eighty-first year. Twenty guests were present at a Hallowe’en party given at tlie home of Harry Peters Oct. 31. An en joyable evening was spent. Clark’s orchestra will play Thurs day at North Ellsworth, Friday at Franklin, Saturday at Franklin Road and Tuesday at North Brooklin. The young people of t He Methodist church will hold the usual social in the vestry Friday evening. They plan a social or get-together every Friday evening. The W. C. T. U. will hold its regu lar meeting next Tuesday evening, with Mrs. B. B. Whitcomb. A class will be formed to study the constitu tion of the United States. Owing to conditions tif the track at North Ellsworth, the race program announced to he given in connection with the Nicolin grange bazaar on Friday, Nov. 7, has been cancelled. The Woman’s Alliance of the Uni tarian church will meet with Mrs. Ada Lord on Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 12, to sew. Mrs. Lord and Mrs. Fred Beal will be hostesses. Re freshments will be served. v Mrs. John F. Knowlton is visit ing her daughter, Mrs. William E. Whiting, while the U. S. district court is in session in Bangor. Mr. Knowlton, clerk of the district court, goes to and from Bangor daily with Judge Peters. f Mr. and Mrs. Tullio Boyer, Mrs. Boyer’s son, Andrew Luchini, and Miss Margaret Davis, with Mrs. Rosa Rossi of Cherryfield, left Tuesday on a two weeks’ auto trip through Canada, and then to Massachusetts and Rhode Island. 4 Miss Helen Shute left last week for Portland where she will spend the winter with her brother. Mrs. J. W. Nealley, returned to their home in West Newton. Mass., hist week. They were accom panied by their niece, Miss Doris Wardwell, for a visit. The children of the Junior Red Cross in Ellsworth will have a parade on the morning of Armistice day, next Tuesday. The children will. meet at Hancock hall at 10.30 a. m., to form in line. At the Main street bridge, the parade will pause and the children will sing "America.” There will be a called conclave of Blanquefort commandery, K. T., next Tuesday evening, for inspection by Grand Captain General Edwin K. Gould. There will be work in the orders of Red Cross and Malta at 4 p. m., banquet at 0.30, and work In order of the temple in the evening. The regular meeting of the woman’s club was held Tuesday afternoon with Mrs. O. W. Tapley. After the business was transacted tlie meeting was in charge of the social committee. * Several piano solos by Miss Louise Collins were en joyed. Delicious refreshments were Served. There will be services at the Ells worth Falls church next Sunday morning and evening, conducted by Rev. John E. Besant of Bangor semi nary. Mr. Besant will be assisted by his wife, who is a singer and harpist. Hours of service, 10.30 a. m. and 7 p. m. The Sunday school will follow the morning service. Mrs. H. L. D. Woodruff, whose back was injured in an automobile accident three weeks ago, is now im proving. Through The American, she thanks the Rebekahs, Eastern Stars and Woman’s Alliance for beautiful flowers, fruit and expres sions of sympathy which have cheered her during her illness. Prof. James S. Stevens of the Uni versity of Maine will occupy the pul pit of the Unitarian church next Sun day morning at the usual hour, at a layman’s service. The subject of his address will be “The English Bible as Literature.” Prof. Stevens is an interesting public speaker, and this lecture, which lie has delivered sev eral times, has received much favor able comment. Rev. Ernest A. Lilley assumed his duties as pastor of the Ellsworth Congregational church Sunday. The pastor, Rev. George S. Brookes, is on a leave of absence until June, 1925. Mr. Lilley is a graduate student at the Bangor theological sepiinary, and has charge of the physical work there. Before coming to Bangor, he was pastor of the Union church, Westfield, Mass., and a student at Springfield college.
