STRATFORD
TOWN MEETING TONIGHT
The special town meeting to take up
the ijiiter of improving the Washing
ton school on North avenue will be
held in the town hall this evening and
Indications are that it will be a well
attended and "lively" meeting.
There are two propositions which
will be taken up in this matter of
an improved school for North avenue.
The first proposition will be to erect a
four room brick building on the site
of Washington school, moving the
present frame building back. The
grounds around the school would then
be drained, the total cost of this pro
position being placed at 23,000.
The second proposition to be placed
before the voters Is that the sum of
$40,000 be appropriated for the purpose
of building an eight room brick build
ing, moving the present frame build
ing back and draining the grounds
around the school.
The matter of rescinding the vote
taken at a. recent town meeting in re
gard to the purchase of a lot, on Hill
side avenue will be taken up at the
meeting this evening. It was voted at
the recent meeting to condemn the
lot, paying $300 for it. It is now pro
posed to pay $400 for the lot without
going through the condemnation pro
ceedings. The advisability of straightening
the line of Nichols avenue in front of
the John Booth estate and the matter
of re-leasing the third floor of the
town building to the Odd Fellows for
a term of five years will also come
before the meeting this evening.
of the season ' by a. few ' weeks and

boat owners have completed the work
of overhauling their boats and have
already launched them. There are a
score or more of boats already in the
water at the Footatuck Yacht club and
also a number at the Housatonic
club.
Although the boating season is not
scheduled to open until Memorial Day,
May 30, the advance guard of yachts
men always anticipates the opening
