THREE STRANGERS
III EVIDENCE AT
SIEMOtl HEARING
-Interest aj the coroner's bearing in
the S'iemon-DeaSartino case at the
court - house yesterday was 'divided
between testimony of three witnesses
that they saw the body of the de-,
ceaeed barbers' aupply man hurtling"
through the air into the shadow of the
trees, and the' 'presence at the hear
ing ojt ; tiree is-trangers whose identity
or purpose has hot as yet been
learned. '. -.- ,
The presence ot- three strangers was
noted from the fact that one of them
similarly resembles Carl F.' Siemon in
face and contour of body. They have
been constant attendants at the ,hear
ing, and are. apparently .greatly -interested
in the - ; testimony ; given.
Though they have excited the interest
of reporters and detectives, they have
been able to make good . their exit
from the chambers before; they could
be approached. ' .-.-'V -r; '---.V
It was ' whispered about the corri
dors yesterday that one of -the men
might be a relative r tt Siemon, but
this fact is discredited by the author
ities as well as . by those Who know
Siemon's family. - They insist that the
resemblance isf merely a coincidence.
Miss Alice T. Peterson,- who with
her father and mother were walking
near the ; scene of . the tragedy ' on the
high of October 29. 1910, testified that
ehe heard. the noise of the body strik
ing the car, and saw the shadow of
the dead man pass from-the side of
the car to the sidewalk, . while the car
sped on at a high speed past1 them.
She tried to ascertain the number on
the rear of the car, but was unable to
do so, for the tail-light was either out
or indistinct. Mrs. , Peterson saw the
-body of DeMiartino strike the ground
and she, as well as Gustave A.- Pet'ef
eon, the father, testified' that the car
did not stop and contained four men.
- Gustave A.; Peterson,- with his wjfe
and daughter, ; was walking to church
from their home in Brooklawn ; dis
trict -on the night that De-MJirttno was
killed. Peterson' testified that, as they
approached Grove street,, they saw a
cloud of dust, .-Something, , he could
not tell what,, happened and an auto
mobile going- faster than usual flashed
by them with four men, two of whom
had no hats on. -. .
As they reached the spot,' there wbs
a man lying on the grass plot between
the sidewalk and the curb. - . They de
cided that the, best thing to do was to
avoid putoliojty and they went on.
Peterson -was jsure that the car did
not- etop after Teaching Grove street,
ee la was 'but ,200 feet distant,, (He
did not think the rear light was r lit,
as he remembers on of the party look-
-ings to see- if the number could be as
certained. . He did not know as to the
color of the car. .. .-':"
