land, in 1809, entered the United
States Navy as a midlhipmnn and at
terwards served with distinction in
the Mexican war. Admiral Sommes
was rebel game to the last,end when
his daughter was married, two or
three years since, he made it a non
dition that the ceremony should tlke
place under the Confederate ﬂag;
