Seattle Correspondent*. SEATTLE, Jane 14th, 1870. TEN. STANDARD : The battle is over, end the eick and wounded hare been eared for. The wreck has been cleared, and again the people of thia Territory submit to the rule of a powerful combination of Federal office-holders, backed up bv the Adminis tration of Gen. Grant, who with power delegated to him by the voice of the peo ple, is using it to control the politics of a remote Territory, ruling us with an iron hand. The principles of reconstruction, as practiced in the Southern States, are being enacted. Elections in this Territory have become a farce. They are carried by fraud and by force. The army and navy are forced to the ballot-box to con trol the election. The soldiers on San Juan Island voted en tnau, at Port Dis covery, for the Federal ring. The revenue cutter voted her entire crew at another precinct in that vicinity, for the ring. These are facta which none pretend to deny. How long shall this stato of facts Continue ? If it is a fact that we arc powerless, that the heel of Gen. Grant hnd his minions is upon our necks, we Will have to wait perhaps until his weak Administration fchall terminate ? The Signs of the times are ominous. The elec tions held in the Slates tho past year Speak in thunder tones to a corrupt and Vaaeillating Administration. The last f'uo fired by Democratic Oregon echoes oud and long o'er our beautiful Territo fry, and bids us hope and bide the time of our release from slavery and from the trilas and machinations of an army of Illinois carpet-baggers, sent our here to control and shape the destiny of our peo ple. Democrats, stand firm! The hour bf deliverance will come. Reason hfts egain assumed her sway in the States and ere long this corrupt band of political thieves will bo driven from power, and our laud once more become what it ever had been under Democratic rulo the land of the free and the hon|e of the brave. Yours, I'ONTIAC. ♦ | - 19* The Full elections this yo.ir are to decide not only the character of the next House of Representatives, but also, to a certain extent, that of the Senate.
