Practically every city and town of any size in the state will be visited by one or more of these speakers, and admission to every meeting will be free. Both men and women, it is announced, are invited. Law enforcement in the United States, coupled with importance of the election or appointment of offi cials favorable to enforcement, also will be urged by the speakers. After she had spent seven months at the bedside of her son, Perry A. Jones, at Guthrie, Okla.. returning to Olympia only two weeks ago, Mrs. Julia A. Jones of Brighton Park re ceived a telegram last Saturday advising her of her son's death. An other son, Ross Jones, and his wife and child, returned with her. Mrs. Jones is the mother of Mrs. Fred W. Lewis of Brighton Park. He declares that the sidewalks are neglected, grass grows in the streets, hogs are raised in town, and unsanitary conditions prevail. It ap pears that the place has moral as well as external shortcomings, as Glick says gambling and bootlegging are prevalent. "I have lived in Montesano 37 years," he said, "and of late years it has gone from bad to worse. If any body wants to go into the hay busi ness without paying rent I should ad vise him to move to Montesano, as he could gather all the hay he wants in the streets, and use the old sidewalk boards for fuel." Canfield, a survivor of the Whitman massacre, who is now fol lowing the occupation of a farmer on Sainton river. Idaho, gives the Walla Walla Statesman some hitherto un published details of that memorable episode in the early history of the Northwest. The Satsop creamery recently shipped 7,000 pounds of butter over land to Olympla, a distance of nearly 30 miles, by wagon, the butter being sent by boat to Tacoma and Seattle. Late earthquakes in Europe and Asia, followed by shakes in this county, give force to the prophecy of Prof. Rudolph Falb of Vienna and Berlin, to the effect that the city of New York is to be destroyed by an earthquake the 17th of August next. The Palladium. Squire Rathbun's new paper, will make its appearance next Monday, "Provtdende permit} ting." as the clergy say. It will be devoted to news, politics, expounding certain new-fangled principles of government and the perpetuation of ancient history. Its "patent inards" will be supplied from St. Paul, but its intellectuality will be derived from an Olympian oracle, a veri table resident of "the home of the gods." A naval battle was fought Monday between the Japanese and Chinese fleets, in the harbor of Tien Tain, in which the Japanese sank a Chinese warshin and captured two large cruisers, which were destroyed. The .trouble is over Corea. A lively scrimmage occurred in the office of the adjutant general in this city a few days ago, between General Curry and late commissary ser geant of the cavalry battalion, lately encamped at Woodland. Thcoaut jutant General O'Brien, with the knowledge and acquiescence of Gov ernor McGraw, a large sum of money for the privilege of selling supplies on the grounds, and that he had sub let privileges at rates rr.neing from $25 to S3OO to such persons as wished to set up refreshment stands on the grounds. When the governor heard of this statement, he ordered an in vestigation and Box denied he had ever stated that he had paid Gen. O'Brien for the concession or that Gov. McGraw was cognizant of such a trade. This brought in General Curry as a witness and he declared that Box had stated in his presence and that of several other officers that he paid Gen. O'Brien money for the privilege of doing business and sub letting privileges, within the encamp-; ment grounds. Box thereupon re plied that the general was a liar, when Curry sprang to his feet and started towards Box and Gen. O'Brien stepped between the disputants. This momentaarily suspended hostilities. But as soon as O'Brien had walked qwpy, the altercation was renewed and Gen. Curry got in a couple of blows on Box, who aimed a blow at Curry and who. in dodging, struck his head against a desk, by which a trifling injury was inflicted. O'Brien again interfered, when Box beat a hasty retreat, and was followed by the now irate general to the ele vator. The Olympia hotel is putting in its own electric tight plant. Dr. Ingham left yesterday to visit his former home in lowa. Green corn has made its appear ance. The interest on the Thurston coun ty bonded debt amounts to over sl,- 000 a month. The steamer Monte Cristo has en tered the lists for a share of the up- Sound transportation patronage Her run is between this city. Shelton and Tacoma. The Sisters of Ruth, a Methodist organization, with similar objects of the Sisters of Charity, contemplate establishing a hospital in this city. A proposal for establishing a glass factory in this city is before the Board of Trade. Five acres of land are wanted near railroad and water communication. Charley Talcott's bicycle experience seems to be unusually unfortunate. He had another fall Sunday while crossing a bridge near Little Rock. It seems he struck some obstruction and was thrown off the bridge into the water.. The assessment of property in this city, just completed, shows a total of $2,436,!>75( a reduction of $578.- 196 from last year's levy. An Olympia couple have agreed to marry as soon as they can see the wall of the capitol building 10 feet above the ground. Another couple are going to wait till the million dollar structure is finished so they can he married by the chief justice in the legislative hall The deadlock in the city council over the election of a successor to Councilman Gilmour continues, Messrs.
