One bottle Electric Bitters and one box Bucklen's Arn ica Salve cured him entirely. Sold at H. O Pierce's Drug Store. 3 HO IP TO MAKE CALL AS BLOSSOM. A calla may be induced to throw out three or four blossoms from the same parent stem. After the first lily blooms and begins to fade it should not be left upon the plant. There is usually a half-formed bud hidden away in the old stem of the fading flower, which, unless the plant is unusually vigorous, will not mature. The dying lily should be carefully pulled out and down from the main stem and clipped off a few inches from the root. The new bud, released from its dark pris on, will form a second lovely blossom, and sometimes a third will appear by repeating the process. If a calla fails to blossom after a reasonable period, and yet seems healthy, it will be well to examine the roots, especially if the jar is small. Often the roots are a white, twining mass outside the ball of earth, and speak plainly for more room. A larg er pot should be provided, a few peb bles or broken pieces of jars scattered at the bottom, over these layers of horse manure covered with fine chip dirt. Then placing the ball of earth containing the calla in the jar, fill up with good soil, shaking it down and pressing it lightly with the fingers. Water freely with very warm water and a bud will appear in due season, unless the plant is exceedingly con trary. The children's health must not be neglected Cold in the head causes catarrh. Ely's Cream Balm cures at once. It is perfectly safe and is eisily applied into the nostrils. The worst cases yielding to it. Price 50c. HOUSEHOLD HINTS. The fashion that permits a bodice quite distinct in color and material from the skirt with which it is worn, is not only an excellent fashion in which to make use of "short length" patterns, and therefore economical, but also very often quite picturesque and artistic. A black laa skirt worn at a small dinner this week, was ever so much mere dsessy and becoming because its full bodice an'd bishop sleeves were not of the dull lace, but made of rose colored silk, with a full, soft crush belt of the same. "What do you eat? Good digestion is absolutely necessary to a good skin. If, as you say, the blood is easily drawn to your face, you should avoid rich dishes or anything stimulating in the way of liquids. Weak coffee, co coa or milk would be better for your blood. Charcoal is a fine purifier. Taking a teaspoonful of powdered charcoal in a little water for three nights, following it up with a purga tive, will so cleanse the blood that im provement will soon be noted. Scrag gy red lines threading the skin are of ten due to bad circulation. Keep your feet warm and do not wear tight clothing. Never go out in the wind without a veil, and let it be a thick one. Black tissue veils, considered by some women extremely stylish, must not be worn, as they are apt to discolor the pores. The new gold buckles, to be worn over the broad black velvet belts, are novel in design. They represent gold ribbon, about half an inch wide, twist ed in and out to form a long oval shape. "Icanhighiy recommend Dr. Bull's Cough Syrup for croup. I have used it for several years and find it the best remedy I ever tried Mrs. Hannah Morrison, Burlington, W. Va." my get "I get A little girl I know has made a won derful discovery, which she thinks all other little school boys and girls should know too. "It's so useful, mamma," she says. "Every boy and girl gets ink on their fingers, you know." "Surely they do, and on their clothes as well," said her mother. " "I can't get the spots out of clothes, but I'm sorry when they there," responded the little girl, try very hard not to. But I can the ink spots off my fingers. See!" She dipped her fingers into water, and while they were wet she took a match out of the match safe and rub bed the sulphur end well over every ink spot. One after another she rub bed, and one after another the spots disappeared, leaving a row of white fingers where had been a row of inky black ones. "There!" said the little girl, after she had finished. "Isn't that good? I read that in a housekeeping paper, and I never knew they were any good before. I clean my fingers that way every morning now. It's just splen did!" So some other school girls and boys might try Alice's cure for inky fin gers. It is a plain fact that twenty per cent of the deaths in our larger cities are caused by con sumption; and when we reflect that this terri ble disease can be forestalled by Dr, Bull's Cough Syrnp, shall we condemn the sufferers for their negligence, or pity them for their ig norance. Modern science is going to let day -light into ancient witchcraft. Dr. Lays has discovered, and is said to have proven by experiments at the Charity Hospital, that he can transfer the sensations of a patient to a tum bler of water. When the tumbler of water was carried into the next room and a reporter dipped his hand into it,the patient winced perceptibly. We shall welcome this discovery. There are times when we should be glad to pour our sensations into a tumbler and throw them out of the window. "The weakest must go to the wall," Salva tion Oil, the best of liniments is bound to out strip all competitors. It is good and cheap. 25c A. Daughter of the Regiment Weds. During the last war in which the Kek holmsky regiment was engaged the sol diers found a woman dead in the snow on a battlefield with an infant girl in her arms. By common consent the regiment adopted the child, who was christened Maria Kekkolmskaya and sent to schoo at their expense. As she grew older sh followed the regiment, and last week Lieutenant Shlemmcr of the Tzumsky dragoons, demanded her hand in mar riage. ' t A meeting of the regiment was heldi under Colonel Reichembach,. who laid the proposal before "the fathers" of the girl. He . gave the whole story of her life and of her acquaintance with her lover and added the highest testimony from General Paninton and all the offi cers of Lieutenant Shlemmer's regiment as to that young officer's character. This extraordinary meeting unanimously con sented to give away their "daughter," and the marriage will take place imme diately. The incident shows a curious side to Russian army life entirely to the credit of all concerned. Exchange. Long Distance I'liotojjrapliy Assured. It is said that long distance photog raphy is rendered quite a success with the new camera with a telescopic objec tive of Dr. Adolph Mietlie. The object consists of a convex lens of considerable length of focus sind a concave lens of short focus. These are placed a certain .distance apart, depending on the differ ences of the two focuses. By the laws c. optics this arrangement projects an ii verted image of an object at a long dis tance from the lenses. The size of the object is greater the nearer the lenses are together and the greater the distance beJ t ween the focuses. To obtain good images the lenses are of special form and achromatic. The whole camera looks very much like a Galilean telescope. By substituting an ordinary opera glass for the objective on the camera and drawing it out a fairly good picture will be obtained on the ground glass of the camera. Excellent detailed photographs cf parts of the city of Potsdam have been taken by Dr. Miethe's apparatus two miles away. American Register. Tlie Giving of Names. The death cf Benjamin Franklin But ler and the spelling of his name in full by all the newspapers calls attention to a peculiar phase of nomenclature. In the good old Puritan days, and even later, children received Scriptural names, such as Telem, Jonathan, Josiah, Cephas, Jeremiah and so on. Then came the change to the era of what may be called hero worship. But ler was dubbed Benjamin Franklin, and one prosperous merchant in Chicago ctarted life loaded down by his moral parents with the appellatives "Grant Lincoln Beecher." It is not necessary to mention his birth name, but it is suffi cient to say that he has discarded the first and last cognomens, and a check signed Lincoln is good for a quarter of a million any banking day in the year. How lie Brolce His Collar Done. Melvin Prilay, son of the Ohio street grocer, met with a singular accident the other day in the breaking of his collar bone. He was putting on his overcoat preparatory to delivering a load of goods, when he felt something break, but thought it was a collar button or some thing of that sort. Returning to the store, he experienced severe pain, and upon going to a physician he was told what had liappened. The broken bone was set, and Mr. Priley is now much better. Bangor (Me.)
