It has been suggested that the “White Cap” cases be compromised. In view of the fact that considerable punish merit bus already been inflicted on those indicted, not only by imprison ment, but by anxiety, loss of crops, time and money, to say nothing of the bad feeling engendered throughout the whole county, we think the step a proper one. and would urge upon the people to at once take steps to bring about tiiis end. The result would prove better than imprisonment. Many papers are advocating tire re peal of the Change of Venue Law of Arkansas. Under the present law the courts are put to much trouble and ex tra expense, and the ends of Justioe are often perverted. The Texarkan iao says, in support of the latter asser tion: “It is notorious that in the re cent cases carried by ebange of venue from Pulaski to Perry, justice miscar ried, the aceuaed having taken a brass band and plenty of money to create a public sentiment in bis favor.” In our own courts we have had numerous ex amples—enough to Justify the demand for a mod ideation in the law so aa to make change of venue less frequent. With trembling lips the request wag obeyed, and Miss Bettie is now at home to the name of Mrs. La Hue. The surprise will be great here, too, for Miss Bettie Clav was a geueral fa voi ite among all classes in this city Thu Tiffs wishes the young couple a Joyous Journey through life, and may all their troubles belit tle ones. Quite an exciting incident occurred at the courtroom last Saturday night, pending the ruling of the Judge on the motions for new trials in the cases of Robinson and Cannon—the latter being found guilty of murder In the first de gree and the former gniity of being ao cessory to the crime. While reading the proceedings of the day’s court, Cannon expressed a desire to go out, and waa accompanied by Deputies IKard and Prewett. He was taken to the sher iff's room, and while a light wns being Krocured, made a break for liberty. Ir. The time of execution was fixed for the 14th day of December. The Judge was very much overcome by the scene, and when he stspped from the bench hur ried his face in his handkerchief.
