The building of History at ihe Ten uessee Centenial will be one of tbe most attractive edifices on tbe ground* Xn State has a mote eventful history than Tennessee, and in this building will be placed tbe personal relics of John Sevier, Andrew Jackson and other great men of the long gone past. Indian relics and historical documents anil hundreds of paintings of promi nent citizens and officials of the last cei.-, lury. Our readers who have been looking for Hood’s Calendar for 18W> will be glad to know that it is out and naay be obtained from druggists or by sending fi cents in stamps to C. I. llood & Co.. Lowell. Mass. The new calendar is certainly a triumph of art. It repre sents a lovely head in beautiful brown tints, surrounded by a gold frame, em b ssed and decidely -up to date.’’ It makes a useful ornament for the home and a pleasant reminder of Hood's Sarsaparilla. The Times heartily commends the action of congress in removing the dis abilities of ex-Con federates for service in the army or navy of the United Spates. Should war (recur, the South ern soldier would be among the iirst to offer his services in defense of the com mon country, and the gallant fight they made in the unfortunate iuternicine strife of '(U-’ho is au earnest of what they would do in case a foreign enemy should invade our shores. Now, if our Northern brethren will abandon their prejudices sufficiently to nomi nate and elect a Southern man for president, we will begin to believe the war is really over. The Times favors an expression from the people next year on their choice for United States Senator, the same as was the case in the Berry Fishbuck contest. In this connection the Woodruff County Vidette says: “In tire campaign of the claims of ex Governor Fisbback and Jas. II. Berry, candidates for the United States Senate, were submitted direct to the people, allowing them to express their ch oe at the primary elections. This act.on did not take from the “consti tuted authority”—the Arkansas legis lature—the privilege or right of elec tion. It only gave them the opportun ity of knowing whom the people want ed to represent them.*’ A shover of the Faber for the Times enjoyed the hospitalities and products ' ol ittgh art of the culinary department j at tiie home of Judge and Mis. We have selected the members of this committee because of their party standing, their long connection with the press of the state and the activity of their respective newspapers in the interest of real bimetallism. Clarke asking that the Arkansas exhibit at Atlanta be do nated to the Commercial Museum es- I tablished in that city is a high tribute to the resources of the state and to the enterprise of its citizens. Arkansas is by nature one of the richest and is des tined to be one of the greatest and most prosperous states of the Union, and the remarkably line exhibit made at the Atlanta exposition lms done a great deal to turn the eyvs of the country to one of the most favored spots on the continent. It is probable that it would , be a wise disposition of the exhibit to |accept tiie proposition conveyed in the [letter of Mayor Warwick. Hut [there is one thought that strikes us ; in tins connection that possibly may be l dwelt on with profit; that is the estab | lisbuient of something in the nature of [ a permanent exposition at the capital of the state, so that visitors and pros ' pectors may get, as it were, a bird’s-eye view of all its resources and advanta ges. This, we think, is an idea that every state that needs to attract the notice of the outside world to its re sources might follow with profit. Ar-i kansas already has a magnificent col-’ ! lection, and this, added to from year to i | year, and under competent manage mem andsnpervishm, would enable tin ! state to establish an industrial museum j of its own that would be of iucahaila- ! ble advantage —Commercial-Appeal. | Marvelous Results.
