I '.'T. The poultry business is rapidly coming to the front as one i { the most pleasant and profitable p --nils in the lift of home pro* i . ims, and it is otic that will, w.ih j'i>l a little attention, increase mpidly._ _ W» have before us, and have i ,,t perased “A Descriptive Pam* i iilet < t Madison, Arkansas, and tiuui.din^ Country,” from the Democrat Pross, by the Madison • t-iaess league, of which (r. I). ’talker is president, and 11. L. ;>erry .itf secretary. It is intended t > answer the many enquiries con cerning this section which are bo i : daily received, ar.d to induce immigration. It is a very credita ble little book, and Tho Times hopes it will do much good. The demand for cattle is making '■self felt in western Texas. The W 'tern Union Beef company, of 'an Antonio, sold its entire herd cuttle in Pecos count}’, Saturday, a inhering between 25,000 and -1) 000 head, to J. T. McElry, of Pecos City, Texas, at $16 per head, ttext year’s delivery. John Ken n 'dy sold to Davidson & Fleming l-’.UOO bead of calves of this and next year's branding at $17 per head. It is said that two years ago calves of I his ago had practi cally no market value, and wore thrown in with the sales of older cattle. It all evidences the future of Lhe cattle trade. Stock raisers who know their business will make no failure within the next few veins. The demand for cattle will m >st likely increase and prices will go higher.—Arkansas Demo ci at. Tho Russellville Democrat, of Pi pe county, has thirty-two politi cal announcements of candidates seeking the democratic nomina tions as follows: Ono for State senator, two for representative, three for Circuit clerk, six for sheriff, three for County and Pro hate judge, four for County and Probate clerk, twelvo for assessor, and one for treasurer. Politics in thi' county are very quiet, though i n i e are several rumors beginning to ( iiculate mentioning tho names of certain men for oflieo who have n t heretofore been in tho bi-er n al list of candidates. For the inlormution of these or other can didates, 1'ho Times will state that t will carry their announcements tr on now or any future date until a ter the primaries for the usual tee. It don’t cost any more to an 0 >unce now than later. It seems to bo generally con ceded by all to whom wo have spoken of tho matter, that the citizens of Forrest City should celebrate tho completion of our handsome new court bouse with a grand barbecue, inviting all the farmers of the county, with their wives and children, to bo our guests. There should be a mass meeting at least a month beforo to appoint committees and take plenty « t time to complete tho arrange ments. And there should be music, and speeches, candidates galore by lh,t time, and it might not be annss to have red lemonade. In ' i' t we want to see this town do s best on this occasion, and leave nothing unprovided which will and to the enjoyment of tho occa sion. Talk it up, and lot’s got en thusiastic. A discussion ot the present jury s . stem by eminent jurists ot the country serves to emphasize its detects. It can never be perfect until it is remodeled. The unit r ile as to verdicts is unsatisfactory, and just as long as it remains in vogue justico will miscarry, and ■hose who are cognizant of the 1 k0t will grumble when ic is made ..npurent. Life aud liberty are do i«‘d on a majority vote by othei :■ bn rials, and a jury Is the onl> Mganized body where the vote must b« unanimous before a fieri* sion may bo reached. One mnn on a jury' may save the life of a murderer, or preveut the acquittal of an innocent man. This is too much power for one man to exer cise in a matter of so much import ance. A majority rule or at least a two-thirds rule would be more satisfactory, and we honestly be lieve the time is not far distant when the entiro jury system will bo remodeled, putting such a rule into effect, or at least taking away /from one man the power to frus trate the will of eleven men. And while we are on this subject, we may inadvertently rccull our criti cism of the present coroner’s jury system. It is an expensive farce, calculated to do no good, and whatever may have beer, its uses i n tho past, its present functions is o civ to give employment to men w *io servo solely for tho fee, or out of curiosity, and not for tho good they may do. Testimony adduced before a coroner’s jury is not ad mitted in any court, and is not ac cepted by any grand jury. It is therefore useless and unnoccesHary. Tt would bo belter if tho coroner were given his present fees and re quired to make a thorough investi gation of unnatural deaths on his own account; then certify tho same to the courts, where it could be used as an outline in determining the identity of criminals and the kind of crimes committed.—Arkan sas Democrat. Catarrh Means Danger, Because if unchecked it may" lead directly to Consumption. Catarrh is caused by impure blood. This fact is fully estab lished. Therefore, it is useless to try to cure Catarrh by outward applications or inhalants. The true way to cure Catarrh is to purify the blood. Hood’s Sarsapa rilla, the Kreat blood purifier, cures Ca tarrh by its power to drive out all impu rities from the blood. Thousands of peo ple testify that they have been perfectly and permanently cured of Catarrh by Hood’s Sarsaparilla. Extend the Lines. Tho Times has for years believed that tho corporate limits of Forrest City were too narrow, and that the linos should bo extended, es pecially to the west and north west. Tho west lino shuts out nearly, if not quite, a fifth of our actual inhabitants, and almost half of the territory between Washington street and tho actual suburbs of the city. This is an area of great value. Many beautiful and sub stantial homos and prominent citi zens arc situated just over the lino. The property is Vapidly increas ing in value because tho town is building in that direction. The citizens there enjoy all the con veniences and advantages of living in town, and have none of the purely town restrictions. They get tho benofit to some extent at least of all public works and in stitutions, tho same as other por tions of the town, and saving the imaginary line which bars them from voting in our municipal elec A Running Sore From Head to Foot-Terrible Case of Eczema Completely Cured Dyspepsia, Dizziness, Kcaa’achs, All Cured by Hood’s Sarsaparilla. “ I was troubled with eczema and had it so bad that I was almost a running sore from head to foot. I did not receive ben efit from the doctors, and thought I would try Hood's Sarsaparilla. Since taking a few bottles of this medicine I have not been troubled with eczema. It purified my blood and cured me.” John Most, Ponca City, Oklahoma. “I was afflicted with blood poison. I concluded to try Hood’s Sarsaparilla, and after taking three bottles the symptoms of blood poisoning disappeared. 1 believe Hood’s Sarsaparilla to be the best medi cine on the market.” Eugene P. a. The very attributes which make it possible for women to be happy wives and mothers also render them liable to the ut most physical misery and pain. The sufferings of body and mind caused by some weakness of the distinctly feminine organs are so almost universal among wo men that the question might well be asked. *' Is this Nature’s punishment for the crime of being a woman ? ” The true answer is No! These sufferings are neither natural nor necessary. They would not exist if the organism was healthy. No woman ought to endure such troubles There is no need of it. Dr. Pierce’s Favor ite Prescription is a perfect and positive cure for feminine weakness and disease. It gives health and strength to the spe cial organs and nerve-centres; heals inflam mation; stops weakening drains; promotes functional regularity, and restores the nor mal, vigorous and painless condition which Nature intended. It is the only medicine of its kind in vented by an educated and experienced physician. It is the only medicine which makes baby's coming safe and compara tively painless. Any woman who would like to know more about this medicine and about her own physicial make-up should send 21 one cent stamps to Dr. R. V. Pierce, IlufTalo N. The addition of this valuable property to the tax roll of the corporation would greatly augment the revenues, and permit improvements already be gun to bo extended and completed. If not already sufficiently large, the unmber of citizens added to tho roll would certainly entitle us to a city government of the second class. There are quite a number of citi zens living outside who would like to be laken into tho corporation. Wo do not know how many, and wc do not know that any person is opposed to being taken in. If so, ho can slate his troubles to the courts. There are two ways to annex: One by petition ot the residents of the territory proposed to bo annexed, and the other by application of the council to the County court. Either is practical in this case, and gives the same re course to any who may object. The Times suggests this topic for discussion at the council meeting next Tuesday night. That’s Honest. The Forrest City Times in its last issue calls tho Index to ac count regarding an item that ap peared in these columns last week stating that twenty bales of cotton were sold in this market a few days before that were raised within three miles of Forrest City, and asks for the names of the parties who sold tho twenty bales here. The Index printed the item on authority of a reliable buyer, but wo have not been able to secure the names of tho parties who sold tho cotton referred to in the item. But in our investigation wo have secured a list of names of parties from Forrest City territory who have sold their cotton hero on other dates, and for the benefit of our friend we give them, as fol lows: On Oct. 15, Henry Hanks, 7 miles from Forrest City, sold 41 bales here; same date Clarence Hines, 5 nuics, 16 bales; same date W. C. Ferguson, 4 miles. 5 bales; Oct. 16, Henry Banks, 7 miles, 68 bales; same date, A. Bird, 5 miles, 40 bales; Oet. 21, W. C. Ferguson’ 4 miles, 36 bales. Mr. Ferguson also brought 15 bales to this market yesterday. These names! are not all that we can furnish, but arc sufficient to show that cot ton from within a few miles of Forrest City is being marketed here nearly every day. The Index will net at any time do an injustice to Forrest City nor misrepresent her people, hut as long as this cot ton market is the best and trade comes to us from her territory, The Index will be found saying so.
