Supplement to FORREST CITY TIMES. Forrest City, Arkansas, October 30, 1903. One of the Colonel’s Predicaments The serenity llntt usually pervades the sanctum and envelops the mind of the senior editor iu motionless calm, was recently disturbed by a decisive remon strance from the fair ladies who of late have formed and organized a Guild. Ills offense waRone of judgment, er ring and impolitic, and whatever kind iy light we might shed upon bis utter ance; however prone we might be to forgive, the mantle of charity does not coyer the fact that his truant pen did describe them as being old. Like a bolt from the blue on a cloud less day, came the lirst protest—a gen tle, sweet, but determined demand for an explanation, and the Colonel’s di nlomacy and tact and artful dodging, gathered from year’s of newspaper trials, might have won the day and been oil to the troubled waters, had there been but one to pacify; but, alas! quick and rapid, and as many as the guns of royal salute, came other fair offended ones, denying the charge of ancientness, and seeking vengeance, till he found himself in unredeemable confusion, his courage gone, his tact as lumbering as a longshoresman's gait.his explanations more glib, but less effec tive than the stuttering excuse of a country bumpkin, and realizing immi nenl rout and defeat, he lied precipi tantlv to the tall timber, to be with na ture and himself alone, among things that he dared, without fear of contra diction, to say were really, truly and thourouglily old. The Col. still maintains that there are old ladies, hot that their pictures adorn ancestral halls—rich, rare old paintings and daguerolypes—ladies ot whom epitaphs have been written and who sleep the long and unending sl-*p and not the kind that form and organ ize and give life and sweetness and beauty to Guilds in this our day of grace. Wallace Circus Band. L’rof. C. Z. Bronson's Conceit Band of forty four soloists is one of the best ever organized. The Chronicle of Augusta, Ga., said: “The Wallace Shows present the tlnest circus band that has ever been offered in the South. When the show was here before a like remark was made. It is now better than ever. C. Z. Bronson has brought this musical attraction up to the point of making it the envy of concert and circus mana gers. Professor Bronson is a musician of great excellence.” The Cosmos Club.
