For sale by J. T. Sanders.D Some Prize Corn. Hon. T. O. Fitzpatrick was in town l tesday ami Rave us a pleasant call He brought a sack of coin taken at random from his farm in the norll eru p i t of the conntv. which will be foui d on exhibition at this office for some time, and then w ill be sent to St. Louis for exhibit at the W oild's Fair. The corn was taken from fifty con secutive hills, is first-class, and takii g into consideration that the land from which it was grown has hecn in con tinuous cultivation for 8*> jeavs with out fertiby. ition, is simply wonderful. Alonar in May Mr. Fitzpatrick will send a fine sample of timothy and of oats. There aie many persons throughout the north and east who do not know that we raise these products and think cotton is our only product. He will also raise a lull of cotton ii i half ban el of rich loam and send it to Si. Louis along iu June or Juh when it blooms. Mr. Fitzpatrick spent two weeks the latter part of December in Charlotte county. Virginia, the former home of Ins ancestors, and tells a very inter esting story of his visit, lie has a deed which was executed in 1704 which is in a perfect state of preservation, and is m instrument containing no techni •alities. According to our notion the form is better, and with less red tape than the deeds of the present day. He is sending The Times to The Char iotte Gazette, a paper published three miles in the country, his object being to disabuse the minds of llie editoi and his friends of certain erroneous ideas they have of Arkansas. L’iilike Congressman Enloe, of Ten nessee, who recently advised his farm er friends to pail the rear end of theii watmi®, and while gathering theii crops to throw the best ears in the padded end for exhibition, lie believes in taking the exhibit as it is found. : thus giving an honest txmnple of what | his county can and does do. Men who are linking for investment I do not wish to see freak products, but actual averages, and Mr. Fitzpatrick v\ ill make his exhibit along these lines. R. M. NIMOCKS. Chauncey Depew WAS ONCE ASKED: “Is life worth living?” fie replied: "It depends upon the liver.” Chauncey was partially right, but he might have added that it depended quite as much upon the stomach and the manner in which it did its work. The moment you put lard cooked food in your stomach you are sending out a pressing invitation for dys pepsia to call upon you. This may sound exaggerated, but let us reason it out. Lard is made from hog fats. The hog isn t the most cleanly animal in the world, and why should lard be any more digestible than fat pork? It isn’t. You are simply taking chances when you use lard in cooking; if it doesn't harm you, you're lucky. The best shortening in the universe is Cottolene. It is made from refined vegetable oil and choice beef suet. There’s no ingredient about it but what is pure, wholesome and digestible. No other shortening will do the work of Cottolene. You must either use Cottolene or an inferior product. Which are you going to do ? Guard against substitutes. Cottolene comes only in sealed tin pails (three sizes) with a red label and band. In the center of the label is our trade mark a steer's head in cotton plant wreath. Cot tolene is not open to contamination as is bulk lard; the quality is always uniform and guaranteed. Ask your grocer for a pail of Cottolene and start yourself on the right road to successful cookery. USE l/i LESS. Cottolene being richer than either lard or cooking butter, qr.e-third less is required, p'D'Pr Send us a 2c sta- p to : y j a,tn e and we'U mal you a copy of cur book, x x\.x*x* "hot« Helps rer, ... 500 choice n from '.he country's noted cook Made only hy THE N.
