Johnson Baker, a farmer who lives

large piece of iron, crushing his sk .

as a result of his injuries.
Highwayman Kills Victim.
Ed Robin* t of Newport died recent
ly from the effects of wounds inflicted
by a negro highwayman, lie was rid
ing along the road when he was met
by the negro who fired without warn
ing. He was then robbed and let’ by
the roadside. Tin roboer afterwards

constable Stone and a young man by
the name of Harris, shooting and rob
bing both of them Young Harris is in
a critical condition.

James F Holcomb was arrested at
Karnheart recently, charged with the

The Carnegie Library Board met
the first of the week and selected as
a site for the proposed new library
building, three lots at the southwest
corner of Seventh and Louisiana
streets, and the dreams of the public
spirited and the literary inclined citi
zens of the capital city, in which
loomed ap a handsome and commo

yet been made but it is expected that i
Edward L. Tipton of New York, the
architect who has designed many of
the Carnegie libraries throughout the
country, will be here within a few
davs. and commence work on the
plans at once The ligrarv project

in a quiet way that ga\e no presage
of the present splendid realization.

that he had been to St. Loui- for sev
