SANDEHS PASSES AWAY Aged and Respected Citizen Suc cumbs to an Attack of Pneumonia WAS SICK ONLY TWO DAYS E uneral .Mnnilay Afternoon from baptist 4 liureli. Interment in Forrest ( it) t'enieterv. i lie passing -way on Sunday night it ll:20o’clock of Prof. .1. is. Sanders. one of tlie oldest and most highly es teemed citizens of St. Franciscounty. caused a great wave of profound sor row to oerspread the hearts of all our citizens, among whom lie was widely known and loved. Prof. San jders had been ill only a short time. I having been confined to his lied just I two d-tys, and a very few were aware mat lie was sick, or especially that his sickness was serious, and there fore the news of his death that travel ed upon swiftest w ings Monday morn ing, was indeed a terrible shock. He had been suffering with an attack of pneumon a, and though everything possible to be done by skilled physici ans and the loving care of his family and friends was done, it all proved of no avail, and the gentle spirit suc cumbed to the inevitable, and w inged it’s way to the great beyond, where it is at rest with its Maker, whom he served so faithfully and well for so many years. Mr. Joseph Boone Sanders was a native of North ( arolina, having been born in Johnson county, in that state, on August 1ft, lSJt. He was married in Mississippi in is,Vi to Miss Eva Henson, three children having heen horn to the r union, one of whom, Mr. LE II. Sanders, of DeYalU Bluff, sur vives him. In 1 Hii/j lie was married to Miss Lucv Ciwyn, to which union seven cl i i id re n were born, five sons and two daughters. He is survived by his widow and five children, Messrs. W . T., J. (i. and .1. T. Sanders, Mrs Alice Longest and Miss Lucy Sanders, two sons, Messrs. Hall ('. and .Joe K. Sanders having preceded their revered father in answering tlie final sum mons. lie was next to the eldest of eleven children, all of whom have passed away, and was the grandfathe of eighteen cli ldren. lie sprved gallantly for two years in the Confederate army as a member of Forrest’s Cavalry, 18th Mississippi regiment, and was an active member of Forrest Camp, U. C. V., of tins city, and of tlie Masonic order. He was a devout and consistent member of tiie Haptist church for *><), years, and was active in all of itsgood works. Several years ago lie retired from active business life and devoted his time to ids duties as a justice of the peace, which oltice lie con scientiously and capably filled for many years. His face was a familiar (■II • on the streets and around the pk* e of business of his son, Mr. J. T. Sa i iers, where lie made his head <i u ters, and always had a pleasant word and a hearty greeting for his friends and acquaintances. He was widely known and universally loved and esteemed, and his deatli removes from our midst a man whose place it will indeed be hard to till. The funeral was conducted from the Haptist church in this city Monday at 3 o’clock, Klder K. 1’. J, Garrott officiating in his usual solemn and impressive manner. The following gentlemen acted as pall bearers: V. K. Izard, J. I>. Haugh, .1. I >. \ er>er, Hruee Smith, Jno. M. l’rewett, Jno. W. Alderson. Interment was had in the Forrest City cemetery. The services at the church and at the cemetery were largely anenuea. a great concourse of people having attended to pay t heir last tribute of respect to their friend and neighbor, and to mingle their tears and convey at least a faint ex pression of their deep sympathy with those of the sorrowing members of the bereaved family, and in all those ex pressions of genuine and sincere sor row The Times desires to join. Prof. Sanders was our friend and we es j teemed him highly, llis family has j lost a kind and loving husband and a good father, his associates a loyal : friend, his church a faithful, devout : member, and the city and county, an j exemplary citizen whose good deeds will long he remembered, and who is i now enjoying his eternal reward. ‘‘He has run the race, he has fought ! a good tight, he lias kept the faith.” May he rest in peace, and may Hod ; comfort those whose hearts have et.n so terribly lacerated and bereaved. The Forrest City High Sci. ;',,nt hall team, accompanied by twenty five or thirty rooters and as many others a> care to make the trip, will leave Monday morning on a special car attached to the 7:.'to southbound Iron Mountain train for Helena, where the team will mix it up with the Helena High School boys that afternoon, he mming. they will leave Helena on the •uF> train, which readies here at vF» A rate of two cents pei mile has been arranged.
