Proprietor. 'auto tourists heard from (apt James Enssell Writes Enter taining letter Telling oi Their Trip up to Monday. Nashville, Term , Aug. 14, 1911. Forrest City Times:| Thinking perhaps the people at home would like to hear from us through the columns of the Old Re liable. will say that we reached Mem phis Wednesday night, the 9th a„u remained over until Friday following, when we left for Jackson, Tennessee, arriving there at 6 p.m., and spending the night. The writer having a num ber of relatives living there, spent the evening very pleasantly. Left Jackson Saturday morning at 9:30*, reached Lexington, Tennessee, for dinner. As the steering arm of our machine was bent and crooked we remained over for the nigiit to have it repaired. We found Lexington an up-to-date little town with handsome springs and a good hotel. To pass away a part of tlie time, Col. Yaccaro pulled otf a badger light at a large livery stable. A noted dog named ‘Hard Times.” was pitted against the badger It is useless to say that it was a success. Left Lexington Sunday morning and crossed the Tennessee river at Clifton. Here Co). Chas. Lewis fell In with two old friends of Dr. Mc Dougal's, Messrs. W. S. Howard and Jim Macklin. The people of the place gave us a warm reception and nothing was too good for us. Macklin rode six miles with us, to his farm, and insisted on our staying to dinner, hut as we had phoned to Wainsboro to have dinner prepared for us,we had to decline. We reached Columbia at <> p.m.. and remained over night, ar riving here in time for dinner today, and will leave in the morning, (Tues day) for Louisville. Capt Hecker has proven himself a great motorist, having traveled about one liunred miles a day over some very rough roads, without an acci dent worth mentioning. We have found all the people along the route enthusiastic road boosters, and they tell us that If we come again next year they will show us better roads. Madison county roads can not be improved upon, nor can those through Davidson, Williams and Maury counties. We ran into some very rough roads near the Tennessee river. The crops all along are line, the corn especially so in Middle Ten nessee. In Mason, Tennesee, where we stopped for gasoline, we met a num ber of Frank l’ettus' and N. 11. Nel son's friends. Here someone bail beard that Col. Yaccaro was the champion watermelon eater of For rest City, and the town being full of them, they wanted to load our ma chine down with them. One man in sisted that we take one to Frank Fettus. We are all well and having a good time. More later. James Fussell. Accused of Stealing. E. E. Chamberlain, of Clinton, Me., boldly accuses Bucklens Arnica Salve of stealing—the sting from burns or scalds the pain from sores of all kind —the distress from boils or piles. “It rchs cuts, corns, bruises, sprains and Injuries of their terror,’’he says, ‘'as a healing remedy its equal don't exist." We wish to extend our heartfelt and sincere thanks to all of those who so kindly assisted us in any form or manner during the illness and after the death of our beloved Louis B. Jones, who died at Ids home here on Saturday morning. Words cannot ex press the deep sense of gratitude we feel toward those here in Madison, in Forrest City, and in fact throughout the entire section where he was known, who proved themselves, in deed friends in time of need. As the sun came up Tuesday morn ing the scone along the road just west of the depot was animated with human beings and teams ready for tiie word to proceed When the word was spoken it was a rusii and scramble, dirt began to fly and tiie scrapers were piling tiie iO"se material in the center of a roadway | prepared by engineer Kdwards. The . men of W heatley had agreed to ciuse their j aces of business and all “join hands" in getting a gond road from tiie North Arkansas crossing to tiie bridge on Flat Fork As we go to press the work has resulted in a good foundation being laid for the crowning work which will come Wed nesday. Tiie farmers are to be praised for the way in which many of them came with their teams, and lent a helping hand for the work. Too much praise cannot be bestowed upon the managers of the Wheatley Mercantile Co., and Goldberg Mercantile Co. for tiie part they took in the actual work done there. They know what It takes to build roads, and they were there with their presence to aid and assist in tiie work. They took hold of the plow and scraper doing service like as if they were old hands at the business. Bankers Smith and Bratcher were loyal to the enterprise, giving much valuable time and work. If you were absent from this jolly crowd of workers you missed some thing which you will regret all yours days. There was much pleasure con nected with tiie little bit of hard work.
