Read it. There is a strange lack of enterprise along these lines in this section We have from time to time tried to create some sentiment and activity along these lines with the hope that it might develope into something tangible. A County Fair is, to our certain know ledge, one of the best and most pleasant attrac tions that any county can have. It brings the people together in closer tics of interest and friendship, and good fellowship. Greene county has no more impor tant asset than the county fair. There is no greater educational institution in the county. It means the produc tion of wealth, the exploitation of ideas, t lie betterment of citizenship of the commonwealth and happiness t all. The county fair is a great school of education. Every department is complete within itself and oilers ad vantages along lines of education in every phase of f irm and industrial work. The woman's department means the betterment of the home, the child, the father and mother: it deals with the health of the people: it t reats of industrial education: it gives out many and valuable lessons in domes tic science: il gives practical demon stration'from soap making to bread making. The woman's department deals with horticulture, the kitchen, garden and conservatory. It furnishes instruction to the child, the girt, and the woman. It teaches the best meth ods of employment for both hands and the mind. It deals with the handi work of women and. in fact, with everything that goes to make better I homes and better people. The county fair means much to hot li cit \ and conn try schools and exert su wholesome in tluence upon all who participate in their control. There is no study more entertaining and more useful than those branches of agriculture dealing with plant and animal life as shown in the county fair. The fair also means much in the way of education for the farmer. It shows how to im prove farming operation'to the liest advantage, how and when to use im proved farming implements, how to get the largest yields at the lowest possible cost, how to produce more to the acre. The county fair means larger bank accounts to the farmer who attends and studies the lessons presented there. To the live stock breeder the county fair is of great value, for It shows how to get more pounds at medium cost: it shows the kind of animals to raise fur food and the best time to slaughter: it shows what breeds produce best at the pail. It shows the thoroughbred’s victory over the scrub in every contest: it brings to close range the !>est sheep, mules, horses, ponies, cattle, hogs, poultry, etc , so that everyone can see the finished product at its best. The county fair is one great school of ed ucation. and will do more for the agri cultural, live stock and industrial in dustries than all oilier agencies com bined. All classes need respite from labor. The county fair should be known asa holiday week. There is a I delightful and desirable social ming ling of the people and a feeling of mutual interest and respect. There is an educational purpose even in the amusements. There is no home, farm. | lact. or commercial enterprise that ! is i)' eneliter! directly or indirectly by t *unty fair. The Greene coun ty fair tu be held at 1’arugould Oct., hi, is going tobeoneof the very best. Let every loyal citizen of good old Greene county arrange to attend this exhibition. You owe it to yourself, your family and the community in which you live. Come and bring something to show that you are in the contest for progre S.’s And then have the best of products g> on to the state fair in November Yours for progress. T H WILLIAMSON.
