The cotton farmers are in a quan dary, and are seriously thinking of of investing in old cotton and hold ing it instead of planting a new crop, which is sure to put them deeper in debt. By agreement, the sense of the vo ters of Chickasawba Township was ascertained by polling the township, ■nd decided in favor of Mr. E. I). Rhea, as between him and Mr. D. W. Hicks. We have not been au thorized by Mr. Hicks to withdraw his name, hence it still appears in our announcement wilumn. Last Saturday 150 negroes with wagons and team left Memphis for Oklahoma. They were joined by 400 more from Wynne, and the inarch will bn continued by land by wav of Fort Smith. Waterford, who is man aging the exodus, says he has over 4000 organized in Memphis, who will follow as rapidly as arrangements for transportation can be obtained. Every man who voted "against license” washed his hands of all re sponsibility for the infernal liquor traffic. But every license ballot rep resented untold woe and agony, and we believe, before Almighty God, that the rum-aeller has a better chance of entering heaven than the so-calied Christian that legalizes his J business.—{Ex. The Democratic Executive Com* mittee for the Second Judicial Cir cuit met st Ilsrrisburg in Poinsett county, Mondsy, March, the 21st. Present were the following com mitteemen: Judge Robert Liddell, of Clay; W. A. H. McDaniel, of Green; E. F. Brown as proxy for H. Watson, Craighead; Ed. L. Jacobs, ot Pointsett, and E. J. Badinelli, of Cross. Mr. Badinelli held a written proxy from J. F. Smith, of Critten den; and Ed L. Jacobs a letter from Committeeman John B. Driver of Mississippi. Mr. McDaniel, of Green called the commitliee to order and nominate! E. J. Badinelli, of Cross for tempo rary chairman. K F. Brown nomi nated Ed L. Jacobs for temporary secretary. The nominees were unan imously elected. After the committeemen had been enrolled, the proxies examined and approved Mr. Brown nominated Judge Liddell for permanent chair man, Judge Liddell nominated W. A. H. McDaniel, and Ed L. Jacobs nominated E. J. Badinelli. It was urged that Mr. Me Daniel was the proper gentleman for secretary, and that the other end of the circuit should be given the chairman. Whereupon Mr. Brown withdrew Judge Liddell and Judge Liddell withdrew Mr. McDaniel. Mr. Bad innelli was iinaninioudy elected. Mr. Brown placed Mr. McDsnivls in nomination for permanent secretary. No opposition and he was unani mously elected. A date for holding the Judicial convention was then discussed' E. F. Brown suggested July, the 20th. W. A. 11. McDaniel suggested a later date; but finally on motion, Wednes day, July, the 2Utb, was fixed as the day. The basis of representation adopt ed by the state central comaiiitee for the state convention was adopted by the committee for the Judicial con vention which gives to each county the following number of votes in the convention: Clay 8, Greene 6, Craig head 7, Poinsett 3, Crus* 5, Critten den 3, Mississippi 6. The comities can send as many delegates as they choose to cast their respective votes. A resolution was proposed by Mr. McDaniel recommending to the coun ty executive ceintnittees that they provide for the delegates to the ju dicial convention to be elected at the same time and iu the same manner a* are the delegates to the state con venrtou. Carried. Towns were then put in nomina tion at which to bold the judicial convention: Ed. L. Jacobs nominat ed Wynne. E. F. Brown nominated Jonesboro. W. A. 11. McDaniel no minated Paragould. Mr. Ed. L. Ja cubs urged for V'yni.e that it is a young thriving town with ample rail road facilities, abundant accommo dations, with no candidate in the county fur a judicial office, and a town that deserves to be encouraged. Mr. Brown in behalf of Jonesboro presented her hotel and hall accom modation*, her central location, and accrsiibility. Mr. Daniel for Para gould pictured her hotels, electric lights, railroad connections, time ta bles to get there quick and return; her fine opera house; and stated that the citizen* had guaranteed to pay all the expenses of the delegate* while attending the convention, and presented a guarantiee of one and one-third rate on all the railroads leading luto Paragould. Mr. Brown withdrew Jonesboro in favor of Wynne. Mr. Babiuelli and Mr. Ja cob* voted the proxies of Crittenden and Mississippi, and their own coun ties for Wynne. Clay voted for Par agould. Wynne was declared the winner, so the convention will be held there on Wednesday, July the 20th., next. The committee adjourned to meet at Wynne, July the 20th. E. J. Badinelli, Chairman. W. A. H. McDaniel, Sec’y. Junos Cate Will Not Run. Judge W. H. Cate, in a letter to Hon. J. W. Stayton, and published in the Newport News announces tint bo will not be a candidate for re-e --lection to Congress from the First District. Ho says: “No ons has as yet publicly announced himself as a candidate, and 1 have information from friend* that there would be lit tle or no opposition to my ronomina tion. Under the circumstances this is very gratifying, and it would bo a satisfaction to me, in view of my late struggle* and experiences, to make one more race in a district | which should not be doubtful. Nev- j erlheless, I will not be a candidate.” John Wanamaker, merchant, im ported some woolen caps, cetton zephyrs, and crepes, and had a dis pute about the rate es duties with thv collector. The board of apprais er* has sustained the collector, and Mr. Wanamaker will have to pay the higher rate of duty. ALL MOUTH AND NO BRAIN. The Appeal- Avalanche culls from one of Hill’s Southern speeches the following lump of oratorical clabber and remarks that it will be appreci ated by those who enjoy recondite and occult oratory: “So let us thsnk the God of ell mercy snd grace thst there is s well ing up from the deep, ex heustless fountsins of human followship, that here and there throughout our land is ever a welling up and overflowing irom the profound mysterious sources of our common ancestry, or kindred birth and blood, our common or kin dred inheritance for uncounted ages of the alow upbuilding powers that blend the heart, mould the minds, knit domestic bond and consolidate and ameliorate the social structures of the sdvsncing formost races of mankind and of that fraternal affec tion and that fraternal peace of which our Federal Union is apolitical type, is justice their sanction, its lib erty their Isw.” The person who guesses farthest from the meshing of this gem will probably be liberally rewarded by Senator Hill. —[Gazette.
