Rational Treatment, Positive Cures. Dr. R. V. Pierce, President of the World’s Dispensary Medical Association, is in earn est in selling his medicines under positive guarantees, and if anybody who purchases and uses uny of these widely celebrated remedies, does not derive benefit therefrom, the Association would like to bear from that person with description of symptoms and history of case. They resort to ali the best remedial means known to modem medical science—neglecting nothing. Ad dress, World's Disiiensary Medical Associa tion, Buffalo, N. Y„ or Great Russell Street Buildings, Imndon, Eng. A delicate surgical operation was per formed a few days ago by Drs. Dickerson and Stark, of the Surgical Institute, Kansas City, which, for the success attending it. we consider decidedly worthy of notice. The patient was Willie Reed, sou of Nathaniel Reed, of Douglas, Butler county, Kansas. The lad bad for two years past been afflicted with a diseased jaw-bone, which, in connec tion with the tinkering of unskilled prac titioners, had grown so very bad as to en danger the life of the child, flearing of the remarkable cures by Drs Dickerson and Stark, the child was brought to this city and placed under their charge. Two weeks ago the little fellow was subjected to the knite. and the lower jaw was taken out, the operation taking about twenty minutes. The incision was made at a uoint near the tip of the ear, and extended to midway the chin. The jaw-bone was disarticulated and removed. In per orniing this operation the surgeon was compelled to cut around and close to the internal maxillary and external carotid arteries, to have cut either of which would have produced death. This opera tion is one which only' the most skilled surgeons attempt. lbe patient is now rapidly recovering, and will soon be as sound as ever, witli the exception of having less jaw than nature desitmed he should have. The irentlemen l>erforiniiig the operation also successfully cure hip-joint diseases, spinal complaint and straighten club feet, and are so success ful in all they undertake that we feel a pride in knowing that our city lias an insti tution presided «ver ty such skilled gen tlemen.—Kansas City Journal of Commerce. .. -- AiigUMt Flower, The immense sale nnd great popularity of Green’3 August Flower in all towns and villages in the civilized world has caused many imitators to adopt similar names, ex pecting to reap a harvest for themselves at the expense of the afflicted. A comparison of the debts of the vari ous States in 1840 and to-day shows there has been a much smaller increase than most people believe, the increase being only about 35 per cent., while the popu lation of the country has increased dur ing the period 180 per cent, and the weul'h of the country more than quin tupled. The explanation of this lies in the fact that the period of 1835-1840 was one of inflation, ending in a crisis and panic, and that the States took advan tage of the east- at which money could !*<• obtained to borrow us much us possi ble. Pennsylvania led the list iu 1840 ill the matter of big debts and Louisiana stood second, with New York, Alabama, Illinois and Indiana following. Ail of these States have smaller debts to-day than they had forty years ago. Iut Illi nois can boast of the best showing, hav ing absolutely wiped out a heavy debt uf twelve millions. The other States without debts or with scarcely apprecia ble debts lo-day arc Colorado. Iowa, Michigan, Oregon, Vermont and West Virginia. The amount of State Indebt edness of this country reached its high est point in 1870, when, m the census showed us, the States owed $352,Slid,098, which amount has been reduced to$UtiO, 038,000 to-day. ^ t A mikcuanT down town sells more of Dr. hull’* Cough Syaup than all other meili cl.'.ea together.
