David West departed this life, aged 88 year*, 4 months and 4 days, full of golden years, honor, virtue, and . spotless integrity, possessing In an em inent.degree all the social and ssseDtial requisites necessary to constitute the true, good aud perfect man. Genial and pleasant at all times. lie was the life and wit of good humor, and had the fascinating power of entertaining witli his well-timsd anecdotss and jests the attention ef those at all times in whose company he was thrown. Ever a welcome guest at home or abroad. Greatly esteemed and universally ad mired for his suavttv of manners, hi* goodness of heart, and his gentlemanly and honorable deportment throughout a long and eventful life. None knew him hut to honor, admire and respect him. He is the last of thirteen mem bers (save one vet living) who petition ed for a dispensation and organised Dover Lodge No. IT, A. F. & A. M., at Dover, Pope County, Ark. He was a volunteer soldier in the U. 8. A. in the war of 1812 and sarved with honor and distinction at the battle of New Or | leans under Gen. Andrew Jackson. Tic ; was captain of a volunteer conpany of U. 8. Infantry during the Mexican 1 war in 1847. He was a member of the legislature respectively of each of tlis States of Tennessee and Arkansas, lie Was County and Pro bate Judge of Pope County, Ark. some years and held other prominent uosi llont, in all of which lie discharged lilt duties promptly and efficiently witli credit te himself aud honor to his country. He was born in Swansboro, N. on the 0th day of January, a. d. 1792. He came to and settled lit Pope County, Ark., in the year 1838. He leaves a most estimable and deep ly affilsted wife, several children, nu merous relatives and a large and exten sive circle of triends to mourn his de parture. The writer of this small tribute and sketch of Ills history had known him long and well for inauy years as a neighbor and a devoted friend of “auld Dug syne,” aud fully realises the se vere loss to his couiitry, his family and friends, with and to whom lie extends his heartfelt sympathy and sorrow in their sad affiictiou aud bereavement.
