—Having been cornered on the Pow
ell Clayton letter Orr Hearne read it last
Saturday out in Valley township and ad
mitted that he had secured it from (.'lay

ten him as a republican asking advice
for the best interests of the party. The
President of the Pope county Alliance
writing to Clayton and admit ing that he
is a republican is a new departure in
politics and a spectacle for honest men.
Orr tells it with unblushing effrontery
and delights in the recital as though
there was nothing improper, unmanly
or dismptable in such action. But to
the letter: Powell writes Orr that his
advice to republicans always has been to
Vote for their own party tickets wher

Nothing else could lie expected. Vote
against democrats always. And if there
was anything lacking to prove that
there is not a trade between the demo
crats and republicans of Pope county
this letter supplies it. If there was a
trade Clayton would know of it and ad
vise accordingly. . Now, will Orr read
in public or publish the contents of Mr.
Clayton’s second letter to him?
The Russellville High School.
While this school does not boast the
name of college or aceademv, it offers
advantages equal to many institutions
of high sounding names. The course of
study is jus strong as that of any High
School in the state, and is intended to
give the knowledge and culture nec
essary for life or to tit for entrance to
our best colleges. During the coming
session classes will tie organized in each
year of High School work. This will
give an opportunity for pupils of any
grade of advancement to take a course
suitable to their needs. Every depart
ment will be in charge of efficient teach
ers. The true object of education will
be kept in view anil the methods adopt
ed to uttaiu these ends. The school is
fairly well supplied with library and ap
paratus. if parents,pupils and teachers
will unite in giving a strong, hearty
support to every interest of the school,
the coming session will accomplish all
that could be asked. Pupils should
complete the course of study in this
school before the expense is incurred of
sending them away. No pupil should
lie sent away from home to do the same
work as his home school is doing.
Students from a distance will find the
school all that is claimed for it. Our
best recommendation is that our stu
dents stay with us year after year. The
expenses of several students from abroad
last session was not over one hundred
dollars. Board can lx; obtained in pri
vate families for from $7 to $10 per
month. Tuition from $2 to $2 per
month. The next session opens Sept.

most important labor-saving inventions
of the age. It takes the place in the
kitchen, in point of importance, that
improved machinery does on the farm—
it saves labor. It occupies hut 2x2 ft. of
floor space, yet it is a receptacle for
nearly everything used in cookery. It
contains special compartments for flour,
meal, meat, lard, sugar, bread and cakes,
spices and flavorings of all kinds, tray

part of the Cabinet Is a simply con

by means of a crank. This Cabinet
must be seen to lx* appreciated. It is as

A BASE FALSEHOOD.
Such U the Charge in the Affidavit of
Q. V. Harvlll.
A Wicked and Mallclonc Mlcrepraaenta
tion Without Shadow of foun
dation.
G. V. Harvtll, a miserable and
contemptible falsifier appeared be
| fore Notary Public Hyatt late yes
terday afternoon and under oath
made the following statement which
is utterly devoid of truth and with
out the slightest foundation in fact:
To Whom it May Concern :
This is to certify that I, G. V. Harvlll,
did, on the, 24th da}' of June, 1892, in
the town of Russellville, county of
Pojie, state, of Arkansas, hear II. F. .Jobe
ask W. W. Brashear if he could vote the
Grand Army Republic or Post, and
Brashear said yes, he could vote he
thought every one of them, then they
went to the post office and I followed
them in, and heard Jobe say to Brashear
if he could vote what he said he could
he could get five hundred dollars and
Brashear said all right he could do it.
G. V. Harvill.
Subscribed and sworn to before me on
this the 23d day of August 1892.
I). S. Hvatt, Notary Public.
Commission expires Feb. 25, 1896.
A baser and more malicious lie
was never told or sworn to. It is a
falsehood made from whole cloth
On the 24th of June nor at any
other time did B. F. Jobe have any
such conversation as is here alleged
and never in his life even thought of
such a thing. And how any man
who pretends to any self-respect can
consent to perjure himself as Har
vill has done in this affidavit is past
comprehension. A man must be in
desperate straits, wilfully blind
and insanely zealous in behalf of
any cause when he will knowingly
traduce and misrepresent innocent
men. Yet this is exactly what Har
vill has done, and in doing it he has
proven himself capable of stooping
to the lowest depths of villiany.
Such despicable wickedness is bound
to recoil on the heads of all concern
ed, and the accused will yet stand
vindicated and rise superior to the
dirty conspiritor whose shameful
conduct must meet the strongest
condemnation of fair minded men.
What would be the use to buy re
publican votes when it is a known
fact that the democrats defeated the
republican and union labor combine
two years ago and can do so again
this year singly or combined. The
folly of such a deal is too apparent
for belief. No sensible man will be
lieve democrats foolish enough to
squander $500 in any such manner.
And would any intelligent person
suppose for a moment that political
buyers and sellers would meet on
the public street and in as public a
place as the postofflce, in hearing of
outside parties as is charged in this
case. It is an insult to intelligence
to ask people to believe such rot.
There is no reason in it, and no
truth in it.
To show still further the falsity of
the statement of Harvill we append
the certificate of J. H. Perry of this
place who says that Harvill stated
to him that several democrats were
implicated in the trade and that B.
F. Jobe's name was not mentioned.
Mr. Perry's statement is as follows:
Iu a conversation with G. V'. Harvill
in regard to the alleged deal between
democrats and republican he told me
that he saw W. W. Brashears and two
or three democrats in conversation and
from the run of their conversation he,
Brashears, was to get $500 for putting
out a republican county ticket, and that
B. F. Jobe’s name was not mentioned.
Jam. H. Perky.
And as a further disproval of
Harvill’a statement read the certi
ficate J. M. Harkey and B. F. Jobe
relating to what P. J. Harvill told
them that P. G. Harvill told him in
regard to the matter. Here is the
certificate:
On Saturday August 20, 1892, Phillip
J. Harvill iu conversation with the un
dersigned stated to us that he talked with
G. V. Harvill about the reported trade
between republicans and democrats and
that G. V. Harvill told him that VV. W.
Brashears, B. F. Jobe, and R. B. Wilson
were positively implicated and he
thought J, M. ilarkey was mentioned
too, J. M. Hahkky,
B. F. Jobe.
And as a still further proof of the
falsity of said charge read the fol
lowing certificate containing the sig
natures and approval of prominent
democrats of this county, It obght
to be' and will be conclusive evi
denee that there can be no truth in
the affidavit of Harvill. The certif
icate is as follows:
We, citizens of Russellville and vicin
ity having read the affidavit of G. V.
Harvill we state as democrats that B. F.
Jobe has nothing to do with managing
(lie campaign for the party in this coun
ty, ('apt. J. W. Russell was elected by
the democratic county convention as the
chairman of the democratic county cen
tral committee in this county, ami that
the statement made in the affidavit of
said lfarvill does not comport with the
character of B. F. .lobe and we do not
believe one word, syllabic or sentence in

crats call a “daisy,” and has knock
ed the Peoples’ party leaders in this
county off the Christmas tree.
Little Rock, Ark., August 2,1892.
Dear Sir—Having seen that you
were a delegate of your party to the
Omaha convention, 1 didn’t know of
a gentleman in your county to whom
I conld more safely write this confi
dential note. The fight is on now in
earnest and if your peoples’ party
leaders will carry out your part of
the programme the grand old repub
lican party will be successful in this
campaign and we will have Whipple
for the next governor of Arkansas.
Don’t organize the negroes into peo
ples’ party clubs as we learn thet
some of the members of your party
have been endeavoring to do, but
w’ork all the democrats that you can
into your party. Leave the negroes
♦ o vnto flio sonii I >1 i I'd 11 tickot, fVtl*
state offices, of course.
We don’t care to meddle with
your county affairs, and hope you
will l>e successful in electing a rep
resentative, for your man will co
operate with ours in the legislature.
We think your man Hush will suit
us for Congress. We will quite like
ly run a republican for congress if
your people can carry out their part
of the contract to help us elect our
state ticket. You see we must break
the Solid South at all hazards. I
have been getting the boys organized
over Georgia, but have more hope
of carrying Arkansas than any other
Southern state. I leave here to-night
for Colorado, but will be in Cali
fornia when your state election
comes off. Keep the boys in the
middle of the road until the 5th of
September, and we will fulfill all our
pledges to our leaders. Sincerely
yours, D. L. Wkmpfek.
It is said by some here that
Wempfer lives in St. Louis and.is
the private secretary of It. C. Kernes,
a leading republican politician aud
wire worker. Some of the peoples’
party know of him and say he lives
in Georgia.
The letter has already turned a
considerable number of good men
who now declare they will vote the
straight democratic ticket.
