BURLINGTON FREE PRESS, FRIDAY MORNING, APRIL 21, 1854. Ilcllgtous Intelligence. AVo hfiir of revivals In Clioler with 30 or 40 conversions ; In Newbury Seminary, where, 40 students liave taken a, decided stand, and In Lyndon whore 12 or more havo been con verted. , Tho receipts of tho American Bible Society th.paet year, ending tho 1st of April, oxeecd those of the previous year by about 513,000. At tho meeting of tho board of Managers' on last week Thursday, an appropriation of 84,000 was inado for printing tho testament in Orcok at Athens, in accordance with an application for 10,000 testaments recently received from Dr. King, who stated that tho Testament is now nlhjwcd to bo used in all tho common schools in Greece ; also, nh ap propriation of 3,000 for testaments In Italy, where Dr. D'Aubigno and others have re cently asked a grant to print 10,000 testa ments, and a further appropriation of 1, 000 for aid in printing tho scriptures in Madras. It is said that the archbishop of Moiico has addressed to all the clergy a circular, in which ho recommends thorn to cierciso great vigilance in preventing tho circulation and reading of Protestant bibles in Mexico which he says are being introduced from tho United States, across the Texas frontier. Ho states that measures havo already been taken by thej government to prevent the introduction of Protestant works. An ecclesiastical council, composed of the pastors and delegites from a large number of .Congregational ChurchosinNow England and lsewhero, was held in Washington on Satur day last to consider the expediency of set tling tho Rev. Alexander Duncanson, from Scotland, as pastor of the First Congrega tional Church in that city. This being tho first attempt to settle a clergyman of the Orthodox Coiigregationul order in Washing ton, it was regarded with much interest by members of that denomination throughout the country. l!ev. Calvin E Stowe, D. D , was moderator. After a lengthy consultation, the council resolved vnanimovsly, as follows Witrtas, It appears from the theological examination of the Kct. Alexander Duncan son, that ho doun not accept the doctrines of tho Orthodox Congregational churchci in our country, in some important particulars, there fore Resolved, That it in inexpedient for this Council to proceed to install him over the First Congregational Church in Washington. An indignation meeting of French and German Roman Catholics, was held in Phila delphia, Wednesday, to express condemnation of the course of Judge Woodward, of tho Supreme Court, in a recent decision of tho suit of the Roman Catholic Bishop of Phila delphia, against the Trustees of tho Holy Trinity Church, to obtain possession of the property. The German and French Catho lics say that the Judga favored tho Jesuit party. The Anti-Bishop party of Trustees refused to give up the Church, ami" the Judge committod them to prison for contempt, when the members of the congregation and their friends called a meeting, inviting American Catholics, and all opposed to the iron rule of the Jesuits and foreign priesthood, to meet with them. Strong resolutions were passed, and considerable excitement prevailed, The receipts of tho Baptist Missicnary Union for February weregll,753 OG.and from April 1st, 1813, to March 1st, 1S5I, S61.S57 65. The accounts from the various missions during the past month are interesting. The recent visit of Dr. Duff to Cincinnati seems to have created an extraordinary inter est. When he preached on the 25th ult., most of the evangelical clergy were present. One hour before the timo of sen ice the large church was half tilled. When the timo came, the housa was densely packed Every availa ble spot was occupied, sitting or standing, and great numbers, who could not obtain entrance into any part of the house, were obliged to go away. The pulpit was filled with ministers of different denominations, who led in different parts of worship. Vegetable Pulmonary Balsam. CcnfamiTif neither Prussie And nor Tartar Emetic. L'ttrr adilressrd to cart of Mr. Cunts Hit'h, Az'it t Raitrma, Ohio. To Ilr. Marihim- I hare been ten years troubled uith lcuule Complaints prolapsus uteri, all the attending difficulties ; at times rendering my Ii' most miserable. I have had the attendance of some of the best physician, with but little success; the most they could do ssas to relieve a euro was out of the question. For flic months before commencing with your medicine, I had not been able to perform any labor, could walk but a few steps at a time, and scarcely went out of doors in short, I was com plotely prostrated, both lu body and mind, and ea pected to drag out the rest of my days in suffering and misery. But reading your advertisement, I was induced to try your insaluable medicine ealied Uterine Catholicon, as the last resort. I had not used it a sseek before I felt like another woman. By tha u.-e of three bottles I was enabled to perform all the labor for six in the family with ease, and could walk anywhere In the neighborhood without injury. Nothing but a sense of my- duty to you and to tbe afflicted, has induced me to state my case to tbe public. I can safely recommend the preparation to all those suffering like myself, (Signed,) .Mrs. Sahib A. Eisner. Far.rnoM. Portage Co., Ohio, Pec. 57, 1655. STJ.
