State, lus tralueil aml sold seventeen
horses llie past year. tor 87,875, or ati
averare of over S4G3 per liead. The
lighest prieetl waa a horsc for 8S00, and
(he next, a stallion for 8775. One pair of
horses biourht 1,100. a pair of inares
$1,000, and a pair of eolfs 775.
Since the above was publislied, ve have
procured a list ol eiglitocii horses sold
during the spring and suinnier of 18G7 by
Jlr. Win.E. Peck, of this place. which foot i

located at St. Albans Eay. was seized by
LT. S. Intcriial Itevemie Collector. A. J.
Ci ane of burlington, lor alleged violation
ofthe revenuc laws in mak'mg fraudulent
letiinis of tlie oil inaiiufaetured. Thebusi
ness ot the company has been the produc
tion of kerosene oil from the crude jictro-
leum brouglit to tlie refinery by watcr
transportation. and it is alleged that the
prtial returns ofthe oil prodticed cover a
period of several montlis. Tlie assistant
assessor of tlie distiict has also been ar
icsted. and has beeu put under 5000 dol
lar bonds for eomplicity in these transac
tions. It is alleged that he received com
Iiensatiou for keepiug quiet about the mat
ter. Ile has been suspended from office.
LAMOILLE COUN'TY.
A catamount. which lias been infesting
the neighborhood of LTydepark, for eome
time, was receutly killed by a party of
hunterg, who devoted some time to his
chase. The animal measured six feet,
aud weifrhed more than 100 pounds.
