Noves of St. Johnsbury and Mrs. Harvey of Groton have been dis charged Manager Spencer of the Fairbanks grocery store begins this week his annual cutting of western beef, and all who have ever patronized this department of this store will be glad to read this announce ment. This beef is always first class in quality and the quantity is such as to supply (til customers. Manager Spencer will be pleased to add to his large list of customers who at this season of the year always expect to have their table sup plied with good beefsteak and roasts. The crew of the morning ex press train will attend to the shifting. Mrs. Arthur Wilder has received a second letter from Valencia, Spain, from an alleged prisoner in the castle fort who promises her all kinds of money if she will ransom his daughter. About once a year some Spanish crook writes some one in this town for money, but Mrs. Wli.ler is the only one who has been importuned twice. Dissolution of Partnership. Notice appears elsewhere of the dissolu tion of the partnership ot the carriage firm of Bundy & Weeks. Clinton Ii. Weeks retires from the firm and is suc ceeded by F red S. Woods, the bookkeeper at the Fairbanks grot-cry store. Mr. Weeks will remain with the new firm through the summer months and later go on the road for some carriage firm. Mr, Weeks has been a resident of St. Johnsbury for 17 years, has been 1H years in Mr. Iinndv's shoe store and since ls'.i'.i associated with him in the carriage business. He is one of the most popular young men in St. Johnsburv, has been active in the social and political life of the community and one who will be much missed. He will retain his resi dence in St. Johnsbury and his future business will be so arranged that he can spend the summer months each year at home. Mr. Woods has long held the confidence and esteem of his townsmen and has many triends who will wish him con tinued success in his new relation with one of St. Johnsbury's most active business men. ft ft ft ?! ft ft ft ft Woman's Club. The March meeting of the St. Johns bury Woiuan'sClub was held at Pythian hall Monday afternoon. About fifteen Lyndonville ladies braved the storm and accepted Mrs. Ilazen's invitation to at tend the meeting. I'lifortunately their train home was on time and they were obliged to leave belore the meeting was over and before many people had a chance to meet them. The program was opened with music, a soprano solo by Mrs. Blanche M. Itrockway, selections bv the club chorus and a soprano solo by Miss M. Blanche Sparhawk. The committee on travel and current events had charge of the meeting. Mrs. Anna 1). Pearl, chairman, introduced the speaker, Mrs. Ellen B. Turner, who gave an exceedingly interesting paper on "The Land of Windmills." The paper showed much knowledge of the history of the Netherlands and the keenest observation. In the summer of I'.lOti Mrs. Turner vis ited Holland and Belgium and this paper is the fruit of that visit. The business meeting followed the program, when announcement was made that the art class, conducted by Kev. Dr. S. G.
