is at once the tool and jest of thc slave par-

I Iii3 ofhcial exposition of a thorough
Whig Stute completely sustains the posi-
tion iu the latecanvass, that the policy of
the Whigs was cntirely nt var wilh thc
success of annexntion and that lo the
Democrats is due all the credit for the
achicvemcnt ofthe grcat measure. It al
soshows, lliat it is from the Whins alono
that wo are to expect resistance to its con
summation; though, now, it is evidcnt that
all opposition will beof no avnil. The south
ern whigs will sce tlie untislavery grounds
upon wlnch their northcrn nllics proceed
against Texas, and will know how to ex
plnin their future action. The last clauBe
of the abovo resolution is partictilarly
cheering as it proves that the Wfiiga
foiled iu their courtship ofthe Liberty par-
ly, have tumcd it ovcr to the "slave parly,"
as their "tool and jest." If this bc so, we
can soon innnage thcm so as to destroy all
their power of doing mischief. Repudia-
ted by the Whigs and laughed at by thc
democrats, the liberty party are in a fair
way to be swollowed up.
Istil mnrk thc concluding resolution:
