Our State Board of Agriculture has ditcusaed this aubjeet pretty thoroughly, nod our Legislatures have had it nnder consideration very session, but yet our roads get do better, although in every county thorn are from ten to fif teen "bodies corporate" with full powers to make new roads, and work old ones. All our legislation seems to have this one object in view to deter mine how few days' work will keep a road bare))' passable. This hai long ainee been determined at two days every year. Able-bodied mon are duly warned once in this annual period, "to bo and appeui' etc., and t largo number appear by deputy, tuiit it, by a boy fifteen years old, "armed und equipped" with a hoe. Half the day is idled away, and much ol the litde work done is a decided injury. The faot is, that government is an unfit agent to do anything. Every thing it attempts to do is either an entire failure, or the coat ia enormously disproportionate to the trood accomplished. The c-. an interest in mo roaus passing through it Why then should nrougu ,u y uy suou .uuu.u they not be puUnd kept, during ne enure year, in goou co numon Why will not each neighborhood elect an efficient Supervisor? Having elected such a one, let us set him to work. Our roads are too wide. No road oan be kept in good condition unless it is thrown up in the middle. From the centre, the water would run off at once to the ditches. It ought not to be allowed to rvn in the wagon rut, cutting it into a gutter. We nave never seen one of those wide roads so thrown up. It ought, therefore, to be just wide enough for two wagons to pass each other. One of the best ways to carry the dirl to the centre is, to take off the shovel from a shovel plow, aud fasten to tho plow a heavy oak board, one foot wido and two w or two and a half foot long, bev-1 elodat the lowest tdeo, whioh rt . will be better iroucd. With this implement and a horso, the work can bo rcDidlv done. No stumm should be left in the road. Having made it, the great dif-1 w ficulty is, to keep it in order.- This would be no dilficulty, how ever, if the Supervisor would closely watoh when tho water is beginning to wash a gully, or to run in the wagon track, and im mediately call out a hand to pre vent it A road, in this way, might always bo kept good, so far as it is possible to do so. In wet weather, iu a clay soil, roads will get deep, no under drainiog will prevent it. It ia tho ruts and .tumps, which make our roads so bad; and the oourso indicated would prevent the one aud eradi cate the other. And auch a course would, in the end, save a thousand percent of the labor now given to our roads. The lady who furnishes the recipe has giv en frequent opportunities of tast ing their delicious flavor; and if any are inquisitive, perhaps she might be induced to inform how they obtained their homely name: 'To three teacupfuls of butter milk add threo tablespoonfuls of nch cream, and a .mail quantity of augur.
