' = ■ * : - \ PLEASING FROM PENNSYLVANIA. ) Extract af a letter from a gentleman V information in Pennsylvania, to h\ friend m this towny dated llrA Scfi\ tember} 1812. “ I am not a sanguine politician, bat at present am of opinion that \rc have a rational ground to believe that the bale ful night-shade of Jacobinism is about to pass away, and that the sun of Federal ism will once more arise. In every part of this opulent state, the honest, the peaceable and the industrious culti vators of the soil, begin to look around and ask themselves what are the advan tages, what the blessings to be expected from this ruinous war ? In York, Lan caster, Bucks and Northampton Coun ties, the friends of peace will have over whelming majorities. These counties are inhabited principally by Germans, who are men of industry and generally opposed to all war measures. They are very numerous, and (it is said) will be very unanimous. Franklin, Adams and Cumberland, compose one district, ard send two members—Edward Crawford, E»q. and Janies Duncan, ot Carlisle, are the federal candidates. They are men highly esteemed in their private charac ters, and will be well supported. Great changes arc daily taking place. I have reason to believe that Dewit Clinton will find warm supporters in every part wf the state. “ There are still some bitter spu its who cndeavrtPt® justify the war and to support Madison. These will be active. There arc otners oi a muuer cast, vj.o nave too much prjdc to desert their party, al though they cannot give a cordial sup port to their measures—many of these will remain at home on the day of ilec tion. There is a .third pot lion of those called Democrats who will make no scruple of deserting their party. In d.cd vary many of them have already come over and v.ill give a deckled sup port l'» the federal ticket.” Extract of a let try from a gentleman at U'aterjbrd, P entity Ivania^ to the Edi tor cf the Uiitcd State*’ Gazette, da ted Sr ft. 5, 1312. w Z til C in daily expectation here of a visit f o»n the English ; their vessels ap p3ui* every few days, in Light of the town oi Erie. Govern ment has certainly placed u< ih a most critical situation: should the British land, Sc. there is very little to hinder ti cm the town of Erie, anti this whole frontier must be descried, or become a ptcy to the savages, as we have nothing but a few hundred militia, who flicked in on the appearance of the British fleet, ex pecting a landing. States Consul-Generals :n Europe, to a respectable Merchant of .V. York. 4‘ It appears by the treaties made be tween France, Austria and Prussia, in the month of March last, and published i:» May following, that each contracting party "engages itself to have no connec tion whatever with any neutrals, beiere that the British Cabinet shall decide to regulate its operations by the maritime principles established by the treaty of Utrecht; it is therefore evident that the repeal of the Orders in Council, will not operate to open a renewed inter course in trade, between the U. States and France, or any pait of the continent of Europe, under its influence. This fact ought to be duly appreciated by the merchants of the United States, which will be the mean* of restraining them from attempting new adventures to the continent of Europe, and of preventing the loss of much property from new seizures and confiscations.” From the Xevt York Gazette of Sep tember 16.
