Seneca Filter Co., Seneca, 62l4t. Mo. ) NECROLOGICAL / / * . \ of is Trank McMillan. Frank McMillan died at the home of his sister, Mrs. Bettie Harrington, Saturday night, at the age of eighty years. The funeral was held on Sun day, the interment taking place at the Old Georgeville cemetery, a very large crowd being present, showing the high esteem in which deceased wa« held. Mr. McMillan was of a rw tiring disposition and attended strict ly to his own affairs and never inter meddled with those of others. He ever readily responded to duty's call, and in the stirring days of the early sixties was among the first to take up arms in defense of the cause he held so dear. He proved a most gallant and exemplary soldier, and the same noble qualities characterized his everv relation in Ufe. His death casts a gloom, not only over his immediate circle of relatives, but upon the whole county, to whom he left the record of a spotless and untarnished life and an example well worthy of emulation. Mr*. Alicia Garland. Mrs. Alicia Garland died at the res idence of Mr. and Mrs. C. 0. Jaap, at Jackson, Tuesday evening, July 16, at 6 :20 o'clock after a long illness, in her eighty-ninth year of age. Deceased was a native of Belfast, Ireland, and came to this country when about sev enteen years of age, the greater part of her life having been spent inHolmes county. The remains were brought up from Jackson and the funeral serv ices took place at the Saron church Wednesday evening, conducted by Rev. C. T. Kincanon of the Baptist church, of which she w«s a lifelong member, and attended by a large con course of people, after which she was tenderly laid to rest beside her hus band who preceded her to the great beyond about sixteen years, a Jong, busy and useful liie, she died as she had lived loved. She reared her own monument in the hearts of all who knew her. Her life was completed if work well done constitutes completion. Her Christian life was beautiful from its beginning to its close, and through all the vicissitudes and sorrows that she met in the way, her faith in God nev er wavered . For her there was no standing on the border-land, gazing into the unknown, for death came as the sunset dies along the hills when the day is over. A life that imparts such lessons is well worth living. "But now she sleeps where the daisies After honored, trusted and nod And the clover hangs its head. Where the wild birds come and the wild bees hum;. Above her lonely bed. She fought the fights, she kept the faith. Her fame shines bright and clear. And her memory lives in all our hearts. Which will hold it ever dear.'' Mrs Garland was an aunt of G. W. Stigler, J. H. Stigler,.Mrs. i£.Ek Gwin and Si R. Moore, of this place J. f. McNeer. J. if. "Sand Piper,'' of the Sandhils, sends, us a newsy cornimun, ication without appending the necessary nomenclature. We have times without number stated that no anonymous communications will even be published in The Adver tiser, but still they continue to come. It is a slothful waste of time, energy, stationery and stamps to send such commanicatieas, as they will ever lie consigned to the capacious maw of the rapacious waste basket. SandPiper is an interesting writer and we would be pleased to have hi in on the roster of our regular correspondents, but it will he absolutely necessary for us to ascertain his identity first.
