Bleaky were called to Centaur, St. Louis-coun ty, to see their mother, who is quite sick. Mrs. G. K. Talley has gone to Bol linger county to visit relatives. Mr. D. II. Ilarttnan returned from a trip to Oregon county Sunday morning. He went after Fred Black, the 12 year old boy of J. C. Black, who was killed July 3d. Two threshing machines were in our village last week; quite a number have threshed. Wheat is turning out very poor.' Oats are not near as good a9 expected. Master Walter Ilarral fell through a barn loft and hurt his arm last Friday eve; at present is getting along as well as could be expected. There were services at the Presby terian church Sunday. Miss Sallio Hartman has been visit ing in family of J. S. Jordan, Ironton, for past throe or four days. Died, July 26th inst., Mrs. McKin ney after an illness of some two or three months. Chas. Gallaher of Edge Hill was in our burg a day or two last week, get ting repairs for a thresher. Hay making is the order of the day; the wet weather has caused quite a de lay and some hay to get damaged. Wm. Lay is home again; had to re turn on account of his health. Henson Muse of - St. Louis is visiting relatives for a few days. July 31, 1893. G. Goodwater News. Ed. Renister Harvesting in this section is nearly completed. Wheat crops were rather light; oats, fairly good and meadows yielded unusally well. Nearly all are done haying. The prospects for corn, especially the earlier planted, are very promising. With copious rains on the 4th inst.. ground-soaker and a light rain on the 25th have done much to favor the thrifty growth of corn. The sky is now densely covered with clouds and heavy rains may be reas onably be expected within the next two days. Shou.d we blessed with grouni-soaking rain during the first week in August, the corn crops of this and adjoining communities will be far greater than it has been for a number of years past. There are very few peaches and no apples hererbouts; in fact fruits of all kinds are very scarce throughout this locality. Among recent happenings I note the following: II. C. Cavender, of near Salem, Mo., was in this neighborhood selling fruit trees for the Stark Nurseries. Miss Maggie Lucas is now living at her brother's, C. D. Lucas, Sr., near Palmer. It is said that Jas. H. Alcorn has Bold his interest in the threshing out fit to Wyatt King. John Bolick, who has been working for some time at Mrs. Buford's, near Kaolin, is now stopping at Samuel Crocker's. Miss Effie Love, who recently re turned from Newport, Ark., where she visited her cousin, Mrs. Frances John son, is now with relatives near Bel grade. Mr. Duncan, of near Barney, Dent county, constructed a new wheel for R. C. Crocker's mill. It has been placed in position, and when much needed repairs aro made on the race and trunking, Mr. Crocker will be able to grind more speedly than ever before. Wm. Carl and Wyatt King are now threshing near Belgrade. K. Erbschloo accidentally cut his foot with an ax on the loth inst.. inflicting a painful though not dangerous wound. It is healing nicely, but he will be crippled for some time. School in this district will open on next Monday, 31st inst. Mr. Hawkins, of near Belleview, has been employed to teach it. Sinco the above was written, tho clouds have dispersed and it is now clear and hot. R. E. July 2Sth, 1893. St Louis on Fire. Clones News. Ed. Black and Ilancchauson doing the work. The writer recently spent a few days visiting the Teachers' Institute at Po tosi. Tho institute opened June 2Gth, and closed Juljr 21st, having been in session four weeks. There wero about seventy teachers enrolled, f.fty-six of whom received certificates Prof. Shelton, Kansas City, who conducted tho institute, is a fair, impartial ex aminer. Miss Brooks, the commission er, is an energetic, efficient worker, of whom Washington county may be proud. The report in last week's Register that "during the past week a brother of Wm. Lewis, who had the fight with Jennings, has been killed," is a mis take. As yet none of the Lewis boys have been killed, and that the Jen nings' are preparing to change their base. The meeting at Goodland on last Saturday and Sunday was attended by the largest audience ever seen at that place, if reports bo true. Mr. John Carty, of Old Mexico, visited J. M. Latham on Monday last. Mr. C will shortly return, via Kansas City, where he has a sister living. H. L. Latham has been doing a thriving business running his new Buckeye mower; he has cut about thirty acres. J. T. Patterson will leave here on the 6th prox., for Belgrade, where he will engage in teaching. Miss Real, of Potosi, a graduate of the State Uni versity, will act as assistant, not Mis9 Henderson, as stated some time ago. Mr. Buford, our teacher, is doing a good work, so, also, i3 Mrs. N. Patterson recently pulled the stopper out of tho Brammer washer, which was full of boning wa ter, and consequently was pretty bad ly burned. But at this writing he is able to go around. Rev. Mathew Adams preached an excellent sermon near here not long ago; he will preach again on the fifth Sunday in Oct. 1 July 29, 1893. An Epidemic of Bloody Flux. . Last summer the flux raged here to a fearful extent. About five miles north of here at the Whiteside graveyard there were five victims of this dreadful disease buried in one day. The doc tors could do nothing with the disease. When my family was taken, I went to Walter Brothers, of Waltersburg, and told them the situation. They said, give Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy; that they had sent out several hundred bottles into the infected district and "everday we hear how this medicine is curing them. So far we have not heard of its failing in a 6ingle instance." I went to giving it and could soon see the good effects a cure was tho result. Anyone in doubt about these facts may write to me. L. C.
