Furtln-r Report of Overproduction .MnLe Slutrii IlrcnkN in Tiiticince Conl u ml Iron All the Industrial Shares AITeetvri hy the DcellnoH. London .Market lienor ted Heavy. NEW YORK. April 17. The Stock Mar ket opened active and exceedingly feverish. The announcement of the closing down of the mills of the American Steel and Wire Company was naturally disconcerting to the holders of that and the other steel industrials, and enormous liquidation was evident in these stocks upon the opening of business. American Steel and AVire and Federal Steel were the mo3t actively dealt in and there were also large trans actions in all of the other stocks of this general class. Tennessee Coal and Iron also broke very sharply, with further re ports regarding the over-production of iron attending Its course. The railway list opened lower in sympathy with" the break in the industrial stocks, but there were no evidences of extensicve liquidation in that quarter of the market. Chesapeake and Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Missouri Pa cific were the most active features there. Upon the reopening of the London mar ket, slight and irregular changes were shown in American stocks. The tone of that quarter of the market was reported, however, as heavy, owing to selling or ders from this side. The remainder of the London market was steady. After the op ening dealings the market developed a much firmer tone and in some cases it re covered the whole of the united losses. Xew York MoeU MnrUct. Corrected daily by W. B.
